Hey SPN fandom... where are you?

I'm wandering through all the SPN communities I'm a member of and I'm saddened to find they are almost all dead. There's just crickets and the echo of happier days. (Though I am happy they're still up as an archive.)

Can anyone point me to where SPN fandom is still alive? Has it moved to Dreamwidth? Is it hiding in a few communities I am not a member of or haven't flittered into yet? In particular are there any:
- writing communities open to fact-finding or collating of information for SPN writers,
- general discussion communities,
- busy fic communities?

I'm almost regretting popping in. It's like the party is over and I'm sitting here eating the cake alone. It's very good cake though. :(

SPN people come friend me. :P

(Me: I'm mostly a gen girl, but I don't mind mixed communities and I will read the odd bit of het and slash. I don't do the Wincest/J2 thing, but it won't stop me talking to you if you don't mind that I don't go there. I'm currently re-watching my DVDs. Just hit Season 4!)

There's a lot more fandom activity on tumblr and twitter. Took me a while to get used to it, but tumblr has some fantastic gifs and even the meta seems to be moving over there. It can be a wankfeast if not careful, so you have to be careful about who you follow.

Hi there, I'm visiting via ash48's post, and wanted to say "hey, and welcome back" :)
I just read your profile and see that as well as SPN you also list SGA as an interest. This makes me very happy!♥
Now I'm a wincest!girl, but a Dean!girl first with the occasional Sam moment, I'm all for each-to-their-own and have no problem chatting with people of different pairings etc. In SGA I'm a John!girl and a Shex!girl, and I'm a mod over at hot_shex.

Hi! *waves vigorously* My first fandom was SGA! So many memories. It's where I learnt to write fic and make vids and learnt about crack!fic. I'd never heard the term Shex, but now I see it's Dex/Sheppard, nice! Honestly, I slahed in SGA fandom quite a bit. I never had a favourite pairing or anything though.

I'm totally on board with each-to-their-own. Not sure why, but none of the slash ever grabbed me in SPN fandom and I just don't like the Wincest thing (not that I can't see why people do). I do occasionally read the het fic, but there's not much of it, so I'm mostly a gen girl. Not worried that you aren't though. I mostly mentioned it in case people wondered why I wasn't reading their fic or something. Wouldn't want to be rude.

* waves * Hi there! I'm probably new since you last played. I write some winces but mostly J2 and do the odd manic (check out my art tag) and run the j2_crack comm. And yes, it's a bit quite right now but spn_j2_bigbang has started and that's always fun, so don't judge us by summer, that is always a bit quiet. There' folks out here in the bushes, you just have to beat them a bit : )

Haha! I just went in search of what an "odd manic" is, but realised belatedly you mean manip. I'm a little slow on the uptake tonight. Your art looks great! I love the idea of covers for fic. Yours are so pretty too! I still remember Newkidfan (one of the bigger art people back when I was fandom-ing) made me a cover for Dirty Tactics (http://starrylizard.livejournal.com/273262.html) and I just about died from the awesome! Artists rock! :)

Yes, so with you on LJ being quiet. It's not just SPN either, it's all of LJ getting more and more quiet (except maybe in Sherlock fandom). I wish I could reverse that.

Nope, not a Brit, I'm an Aussie like Ash. But I ordered the Season 7 DVDs through Amazon (waaay cheaper than here) and the DVDs came with an Ultraviolet licensed digital copy that is "only available for download in the UK".

Apparently to use this service, one must be (a) over 18, (b) living in the UK and (c) create or have a Flixster account.

Since I am over 18, but otherwise run into problems, I'm happy to give the password to someone else to use. I really only wanted the DVDs anyway. So if you know someone who'd like a licensed digital copy or if you'd like it... just say the word.

P.S. I love your sidebar gifs. Where does everyone get all the cool sidebar gifs?

Sounds like your rewatch is going splendid! I have not started mine. Argh! The most active I see people is on Tumblr. I don't really know how to work tumblr, but I do enjoy just watching it on occasion. There's great gifs and artwork.

Yep I'm up to S4. Can you believe it? It's such a pity they had to cut S3 so short. The momentum was a bit all over the place, but it does make me want to fill in the blanks with some fic. :D

Bwaha! I hear ya! Stargate Atlantis was like that for me back in the day. And Sherlock is a bit that way too. I'm less so with SPN, but different fandoms drag me in for different reasons.

Hey! ash48 sent me -- welcome back to SPN fandom. It's a little quiet now because of summer hellatus, but IT'S NOT DEAD OUT THERE! Sure, a lot of people from the early days have moved on or shifted over to tumblr (lots of pretty pictures, but zero conversation), but there's a lot of us still holding down the LJ fort, discussing Show, writing, arting . . . and we are legion! :D

Everyone has already mentioned all of the lively communities, so I'll just suggest popping into all the challenges that are in full swing right now. Hi! Popping over from ash48's journal. I know how you feel... I've been in this fandom for about a year and a half, and it feels like stepping into a magical city, everything preserved and gorgeous, art and technology like nowhere you've seen before, but not a soul.

Anyhow, hi! *waves* Welcome back! I'm very much into Wincest, and I like J2, though I also like gen and Cas/Sam, and try to cheer on friends' likes, ships, kinks, tropes, cause fandom is awesome and I love that people love different things in it. I feel strongly about gender/queer issues and write about that too, (some people don't appreciate that, so fair warning), and I write personal stuff, which I try to only share with people who want to read it. I think a lot of my flist and real life friends) fell out of love and got all negative about SPN and then I just lost my SPN!buzz. I'm hoping I can find it again. Find that small vibrant corner that interests me and makes me laugh and cry (in a good way) again.

I didn't know there was a Cas/Sam part of fandom. Can't say I've ever seen that pairing, though it would make sense for it to be out there. Cool! And gender/queer issues are not a problem. That's great in fact! Actually I learnt all about sexual preferences and that being okay from LJ friends and fic. I was raised in a rather "closed" environment on the topic. I have changed in so many ways since I moved out of home and LJ had a big part in some of my mental gears shifting and my world opening up (can't believe I opened my LJ over 8 years ago!). :)

Also I notice you podfic. I must pull out my mic again one of these days and read some fanfiction aloud. It always makes me happy. I'm also podlizzie out there in the ether. *waves a hand*

I do enjoy discussion and meta, and I try to give thoughtful fb on other people's fic, art, and vids. I can assure you SPN fandom is not totally dead here on LJ. It may seem that way sometimes thanks to Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook, but a lot of us are still alive and kicking (it in the ass). ;)

I post a SPN cap every day that I call "Just 'Cause" (from Sam's line in Fresh Blood) and routinely post fanart pieces as well. Plus I cap SPN...a lot. *g*

On the comm side of things I run positively_spn which is a very friendly and welcoming place for all things SPN and SPN actor related. I also have spn_locations for all of SPN's filming locations in the Vancouver BC area which is currently being updated. I was also posting pics daily to spn_ontheset, but I've had to temporarily shut down that comm until I can find some new behind-the-scenes pics.

As for me, I love Dean and Jensen dearly, but I like Sam and Jared as well. I love the show and everything about it with a fiery passion and fully support it's writers and crew.

I'm here via the lovely ash48. I've been in a few fandoms in the past SG-1 and Merlin and I did make Stargate vids long years ago. I am relatively new to SPN (Thank you, Netflix!) but, sadly, am a fringe dwelling leech who tends to read and devour all the things that other talented people create without ever giving anything back aside from the occasional feedback, rec, and response to posts. I'm not even consistently meta, sadly.

So, if you are willing to befriend an inconsistent bottom feeder who has very little to offer, I'm here for you. At the very least, there is a recent photo with some delightful boys to ogle at My Journal
