This comes from This Site and it's basically saying boycott reality TV and help the writer's strike.

Boycott reality TV.
Don't watch it.
Don't stream it.
Don't buy it on iTunes or Amazon or NetFlix.
Don't watch the reruns.
Spread the word.

Since I (1) live in Australia and (2) would rather spork myself senseless than watch reality TV, I know I won't make much of an impact, but I can at least do the "spread the word" bit and maybe someone else will decide to take it to heart.

If we don't watch reality TV, it affects the number of viewers who see the advertisements. Advertisements are revenue for the very companies that the WGA is striking against. If they have reduced revenue, they'll feel the effects of the strike much more keenly. Display this banner on your website, blog, forums, etc. to show your support for the Writers Guild of America and their strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers.

Probably more important for us outside the US is not to watch videos on the official network sites. A lot of them have full episodes up there, covered in advertising - The Daily Show, for instance, just put up a new website with practically every episode since 1999 - and the writers don't get any cut of the ad revenue.

I know, it's like, how do you call that a promo... it's the whole darn episode. O_o

It's really no wonder it's come to this point. Considering how long it takes for me to write a fanfic, these guys come up with the whole damn show and they're paid as if they work at MacDonalds. I'm really rather shocked. I always assumed writers would be sought after professionals on good salaries... at least once they are writing blockbusters.

*smacks the networks down* I'll miss my shows, but I'm so not complaining. Bring it on bitches!!

GO LIZZY!!!!!

FIGHT THE POWER!!!!

*mutters: fucking reality tv bullshit crap friggin' tosspot wankers...*

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Fan power, baby!

I'm so happy we can all get behind the writers. I was really afraid people would be all wanky and protest about their beloved shows going away, but I'm so happy that it's not like that.

Die evil networks, give them their measly extra 4c!! *snarls menacingly*

From: [identity profile] looleebelle.livejournal.com

Oh TOTALLY! When I first saw it I was like "NOOOOOOO!!!!!" But then I thought about it and read a bit about it and I was like "I see why they're doing it and how it's going to affect us all in the long run so I'm throwing myself behind them..."

How do I display that banner on my LJ, Lizzy??? Should I sticky note it at the top of my homepage??

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

You're welcome to hotlink my upload of it, since it's to image shack.
Wander over here (http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=strikebanner1co5.jpg) and then you'll want the html code. Grab the code and display it wherever you like. :)

BTW - Shoe, I borrowed your icon for the duration of the strike... hope that's okay... *looks hopeful!*

These bastards who are trying to cheat the creative guts out of the entertainment industry should all be hung, strung and quartered if you ask me... *grumbles*

Looking at her userinfo, the icon is credited to [livejournal.com profile] elliptica, so I'd probably credit her in the comment bit where you load the icon. It's a common courtesy thing. :)

Oh and I notice there's a heap more of them in this post (http://community.livejournal.com/elliptica/67360.html#cutid1). ;)

Apparently there had been some talk that a lot of the reality tv writers were going to be quite willing to join in the strike too - because they want to join the WGA and recognition of their efforts too.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Ooh, well that'd be good. Apparently most of the reality TV writers aren't part of the WGA at the moment. I kinda wonder how much writing is involved in the show. Maybe the host's spiel at the beginning etc. ??

I'm not sure how much writing actually is involved, but yeah, pretty much none are members of the WGA and they apparently want to be. It may be that the writer's also help direct the paths of the shows.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

possibly...maybe concept design too. No idea. *shrugs*
I kinda mostly really don't like R TV. There are a few exceptions, with things like "So you think you can dance", but those people have talent.

Oh, I hate reality tv too. I think the only lot of watched pretty much has been idol.

I've been hearing about the reality tv stuff by my sister, she's been keeping up to date on the strike info.

From: [identity profile] wickedalchemist.livejournal.com

That? That is awesome and I am totally taking it up. I'm just so scared that there are gonna be more bored/stupid people around who would go ahead and watch the crappy reality TV shows. I know people who do and that irks me.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I was all like, that's pretty easy, I don't watch any reality tv but then I stopped... and realised I watch So You Think You Can Dance and that's kinda, sorta, almost reality tv...

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Yeah, I do too, but it wasn't on last night, so maybe it's finished...? Or I missed it. I do like that one, those dancers are awesome! Anyway, there's supposed to be an Australian version soon and we can watch that without guilt since it's not made in Hollywood. :P

People watch reality TV? I think my television would explode if I let it sit on one of those shows longer than a minute or two...or is that my head exploding? I'm not really sure which.

I can join this rally quite easily since I tend to do exactly that anyway...the bloody shows are neuron eaters and I don't want to blow what little IQ I manage to possess :D

Nutty
(who misses the adventure TV of the eighties (yes, I'm old now) :D)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Teehee! Yeah, the only thing that's sort of reality TV I watch is "So you think you can dance" otherwise I hate them with a vengeance. :D
