Just discovered there's an Atlantian Ballet company AU, The Company. It's still a WIP, but it looks to be fun! I love AU's and there are so many in SGA fandom. *grins* There's a Part2 here.
Today, I have:
1. Come incredibly close to adopting an orphaned plot bunny someone posted. I'm still contemplating, but oh the crack ideas in it are priceless and a wild west fic would be so much fun to write.
2. Remembered that I promised several people a long time ago that I'd write a Mr Bean/SGA follow-up, where he makes it to Atlantis with Teddy as his one personal item.
3. Found that I have this Teyla/Ronon bunny floating around in my brain. I was going to write it for Artword, but I've decided to give that a miss this time...but the bunny is still pestering me. It must be because it's so close to Easter. I just can't bring myself to kill the bunnies right now.
Also I was wondering, if anyone reading this has any knowledge of (a)guns or (b)medicine?? It's just that those two things continually come up in my plotty ideas and I sometimes abandon them based solely on the fact that I know I couldn't make those aspects realistic.
My knowledge of guns only extends as far as P90 vs handgun, which suffices most of the time, but sometimes it'd be great to have more. Sometimes I want a scene where character A is running out of ammo (so how many bullets does his gun have?) or character A wants to teach character B how to hold a gun (having never held one...well you get the idea. *shrugs*).
My medical knowledge is very molecular. I can do the science thing, but I wouldn't know what to do if someone was bleeding from a nasty wound. I'm pretty sure Beckett would know though. *grins*
So, for future reference, I would appreciate it if there is anyone that does have this know-how and wouldn't mind me occasionally emailing a scene for advice, or bouncing ideas off of them, to see if they are realistic. I promise not to bug you too much, it's just that I'd likely attempt to write a few different types of fics, if I could check what I'm writing is sound. *looks around hopefully*
(EDIT: There is a useful list of medical info sites here, if anyone is interested.)
Edit again: I just stumbled on Ten Mistakes Writers Don't See (But Can Easily Fix When They Do) This is the best list ever! It simply lists and explains the top ten things that writers get wrong in their writing and they really make you stop and think. I found it fascinating! I'm sure I've done a few of them. I know I've certainly added "empty adverbs" on occasion. Just thought I'd list it here in case anyone was interested.

Medical information links for SGA writers
Random pet peeves about military language (there are also a few other links in the comments of that post)
(Ha ha! Just noticed your edit, and you've linked to that same medical post! Disregard this then!!)

I appreciate it though. They are both useful links and I haven't checked the comments.
It's amusing I suppose, since I work with doctors every day, but I could never take the looks I would get if I were to try to casually slip into conversation a question like: "So if someone had been shot in the shoulder, what would be the best course of emergency treatment and could you list physical symptoms for me?"
Gah I would so end up in a padded cell and there is so no way I'd tell them the real reason I want to know either. :p

Cool, I'll keep you in mind, should I ever actually try to add some guns in to my fic. I dislike writing something that is more than likely wrong, so I tend to avoid stuff I don't know or I will be caught out if I make it up.
Thanks! :D

PhD thesis? What thesis? *sighs*
(Ya know...A Bean/SGA icon could be cool.)

And for the medical questions like you my knowledge is mostly molecular (and I know a lot less than you on the subject) but I've been a first aid worker for some years so I may help you with first aid actions but that's all ^^
