I am terrible confused by this season of Doctor Who. I'm not enjoying it much. It's like the whole season just doesn't feel right. And I can't put my finger on why, only every episode feels like a repeat of the last one.

Can someone explain what I'm missing?
Is anyone else feeling a bit weird about this season?

I mean, I'm still watching. I still love the 11th Doctor. But is there a different writer this season or something?

I am confuuuuused. Like really confused.
Oh and I'm up to date, so no worries about spoiling me.

Entertain me with your thoughts. Point me to some meta. Explain stuff to me. Whatever you like.
Make me all excited about my DW again, please.

I would try to cheer you up, but sadly that's what happened to me during S5 so all I can offer virtual booze and chocolate.

Hmm. Well I'm still watching, I've just lost my extreme squee these days. It may yet return though. Here's hoping.

For your sake, I hope so, too. I miss being excited by it, but am sadly sort of used to it by now. That said, the ending of NotD did inspire me in another direction, which has excited me. I have put my opinions about why I feel let down on my LJ, but of course you don't have to read them unless you want to.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. And I've no idea what it is, either..

It's really odd. I partly think I may just want more silly episodes rather than everything being the end of the world. But it's not just that... Hopefully I get my squee back someday soon.

I'm with you. I think it's because the chemistry has changed. Don't necessarily dislike Clara...but its not the same. It feels like they tried to force a mystery on us that wasn't needed. Now when Vestra, Jenny and Strax appear...feels very different.

Yeah those guys are amusing! :D

It feels... fragmented?

And I think the fact that they split the season up into 2 halves with Rory and Amy in 1st half and then Clara in 2nd half that makes it weird? Usually we have an entire season dedicated to 1 plot line and now it's half a season, maybe that's why?

IDK...

I was barely paying attention to half of it TBH. And I keep forgetting that River is dead, that she's been dead since the first time we met her. Bloody time travelling, messes with your head.

Yeah, plus I have decided maybe it's also we don't get to know Clara very well, because for half the episodes she was a different version of herself... hmm.

The plot this season is very timey wimey with the time travel. It does my head in for sure.

If it means anything, this is the first time since I've been watching DW live that I'm not just an episode behind, I'm 3 eps behind. :S And I haven't cared if I'm spoiled or not. :S

It's like what you said, I still love Eleven. I've even liked Clara. But it just feels like something is missing, whatever that thing is that makes me all "ZOMG, new ep today! Must watch immediately!" :S I'm not stopping watching it, I'm just not as motivated to see it the second it airs.

I've lost the excitement on it, too, and it's a real bummer. :( *offers a basket of cookies as consolation*

*hugs* ♥

Thanks! *munches cookies* Hopefully it picks up again. It seems at least I'm not alone, so I guess I'm not missing anything, it just is a bit less "wow" this season for some reason. hmm.

My problem? It's a show called Doctor Who which doesn't seem to want to BE Doctor Who. It wants to be something else but it doesn't know what it should be.

Moffat has given the show his own special twist but it's a sour twist. If the writers were left alone to their own devices, I think they would have turned out much better stories. But trying to cram it into Moffat's "Bizarro World" makes all the stories feel disjointed.

Remember when the Doctor used to accidentally stumble into a plot which didn't involve the universe about to be destroyed? I miss those days...

Must admit I haven't watched much of the Old School DW. But I think I know what you mean. This season in particular has had Daleks, Cybermen etc. etc. in the space of a few episodes. I'd prefer something really fun and silly again.

I'm not as excited about the second part of the season as I was about the first - I think I'm missing the Ponds. That said, I did enjoy last night's ret-conning and insertion of Clara into the Doctor's time stream - I liked that explanation of her mystery. And I love Madame Vasta, Jenny and Strax! I want an entire spin-off series of them solving mysteries in Victorian London and being the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. I'm almost guaranteed to love any episode that features them. And I wonder if John Hurt's 'Doctor' was the one who ended the Time War?

So, generally, not as excited this time round as previously, but still happy enough to curl up on the couch on Sunday night with some chocolate and the Doctor.

That'd be brilliant!

Yes, I am also still happily watching. I just seem to have lost the massive excitement I got in earlier seasons. hmm.

I think as someone mentioned part of the reason is the splitting of the season, the continuation from the Ponds to Clara does not work at all...I like Clara, she's cute but that's mostly what she is in all the eps - cute.
The highlight of the season was River and the Doctor, also liked Madame Vastra and Co, although they were a little bland for Who-characters I think. The whole mystery of this half-season was a bit rushed, I think it makes sense but I haven't gotten too much into the whole mystery anyway.

Yeah, seems much of my flist is feeling the same way I am. Which is normalising. Hopefully it picks up again. It just seems to have lost its verve a bit of late.
