Hee! I have a feeling you were the one to point it out once before. hehe. I've been trying to add more dialog since then, but I don't think it makes much difference. I appears that I just like describing things. :p
I'm sorry, but looking at the story I just betaed, that was more description than dialogue. Yes, it was sparse description, but it was description. There is sparse description that looks like so much more and sparse description that is just sparse...yours always looks like so much more.
Yeah, it is almost a dialogue style of writing, but it's not quite. And I'm not so much into the "her dress was red, her hair golden" style of description anyway.
I just meant that I'm never going to write what colour anybody's eyes are (unless it serves a purpose) or what they're wearing, etc., and that sort of description isn't necessarily necessary.
No, you don't use that description.
Some people seem to think that writing fic means you *need* to put in that sort of description, when we all know what the characters look like. Sometimes it's useful, but sometimes not. Like, yes, on the planet that our characters are going to, it's useful to describe what the planet is like...just as long as we don't spend like three paragraphs doing it. Because people will just skip that.
Hee, I love it too. It comes in handy quite alot more often than I would have imagined too. Gotta love those Asgard and Hermiod swears all the time, which cracks me up.
Hee, I have so described eye colour at least once...in 'memory in a touch' and I had so much trouble deciding what colour Shep's eyes were that I've never done it again.
...but it was necessary and I totally get what you mean. *grins*
Hee hee! I was just thinking, it would be terribly amusing for you to write a dialog only thing and have me add the actions and descriptions. (Then we could swap and it could be a challenge.) :p Just a crazy thought.
Wheeee! I got my fic. *hugs* Guess what ship (...sort of ship, maybe friendship)...I wrote tonight. You and Sakuracorr will love me, maybe if I can bring myself to post it when I read it again in the morning and see if a beta believes it isn't a load of pompous tripe. :p (I have such belief in my fic writing abilities :P)
Oh, my Ent fic, and my NCIS are mainly angst. Somehow, I haven't really been able to write beyond humour for SG-1 and Atlantis. I think I've written only one serious SG-1 piece.
I think it is also because I've come so late into the fandom, that most of the ideas I might have had for writing have been already written. There's so much angst out there, that I can't come up with new stuff.
Some times it even seems like you're using to avoid writing speech Dang nammit, you've figured me out. I hate dialog! It always sounds clumsy to me and I really hate writing things like "he said" or "she mumbled", so I write a sentence and then describe their actions with it. Bad habit perhaps, but sometimes it works. Sometimes it fails miserably. *grins*
Hee, thanks. That RR should be interesting. If we ever finish it we may have to smooth it over some, in case it's obvious which of us is writing, though so far it's not too obvious to me.
Iknow, I know, I'm bad RR person...especially seeing as I suggested the two day turn around. I have to reread it, and then write, which won't happen until the weekend, probably. It *might* happen tonight...before NCIS, but otherwise, the weekend. I'm going to be more sleep deprived over the next two days.
So far, I don't think it's obvious. ANd remember, you're allowed to add bits in to what the other person has written, if you think of something extra.

I'd like to learn how to desribe though. And I typically mean settings and actions when I say that.

But I guess I feel it's different because it's 2nd person which is almost a dialogue style of writing.
And... actually, there's question I have to ask about a comment you made. Emailing you! :)
