Hee! I've had comments to this effect. What do you guys think? Course I don't write very much, so you may have no idea, which is fine.

You are very good at description. Some times it even seems like you're using to avoid writing speech, which is fine.

Descriptive writers paint us a pretty picture...and that's what you do.

*giggles madly* Oh yes. :P

And Inge, I'd say yes to yours too. :D

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I have a feeling you were the one to point it out once before. hehe. I've been trying to add more dialog since then, but I don't think it makes much difference. I appears that I just like describing things. :p

[identity profile] heylittleriver.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I might've. Honestly don't remember.

I appears that I just like describing things.

That it does. :P While I'm the complete opposite.

I'd like to learn how to desribe though. And I typically mean settings and actions when I say that.

I'm sorry, but looking at the story I just betaed, that was more description than dialogue. Yes, it was sparse description, but it was description. There is sparse description that looks like so much more and sparse description that is just sparse...yours always looks like so much more.

[identity profile] heylittleriver.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, okay. :P I admit that did have a bit of description in it. (Not so much setting, though.)

But I guess I feel it's different because it's 2nd person which is almost a dialogue style of writing.

And... actually, there's question I have to ask about a comment you made. Emailing you! :)

Yeah, it is almost a dialogue style of writing, but it's not quite. And I'm not so much into the "her dress was red, her hair golden" style of description anyway.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
her dress was red, her hair golden??
What style is that and please tell me I don't use it, because it sounds nasty. *blinks*

I just meant that I'm never going to write what colour anybody's eyes are (unless it serves a purpose) or what they're wearing, etc., and that sort of description isn't necessarily necessary.

No, you don't use that description.

Some people seem to think that writing fic means you *need* to put in that sort of description, when we all know what the characters look like. Sometimes it's useful, but sometimes not. Like, yes, on the planet that our characters are going to, it's useful to describe what the planet is like...just as long as we don't spend like three paragraphs doing it. Because people will just skip that.

And, man, I love that icon.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, I love it too. It comes in handy quite alot more often than I would have imagined too. Gotta love those Asgard and Hermiod swears all the time, which cracks me up.

Hee, I have so described eye colour at least once...in 'memory in a touch' and I had so much trouble deciding what colour Shep's eyes were that I've never done it again.

...but it was necessary and I totally get what you mean. *grins*

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Hee hee! I was just thinking, it would be terribly amusing for you to write a dialog only thing and have me add the actions and descriptions. (Then we could swap and it could be a challenge.) :p
Just a crazy thought.

[identity profile] heylittleriver.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh. Now that would be cool. ...I have holidays in a week and a half too!

Also, keep an eye on my journal/your f-list. There may be something appearing tonight. :P

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Cool and I am intrigued. Will do. *grins and goes to check your journal*

[identity profile] heylittleriver.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, not yet. *headdesk*

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Wheeee! I got my fic. *hugs*
Guess what ship (...sort of ship, maybe friendship)...I wrote tonight. You and Sakuracorr will love me, maybe if I can bring myself to post it when I read it again in the morning and see if a beta believes it isn't a load of pompous tripe. :p (I have such belief in my fic writing abilities :P)

Anyhoo, bed time.

[identity profile] heylittleriver.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)

Check my journal this morning. *big grin*

Really? Obviously I haven't read enough of your fic. I associate you with Crack!fic. *big grin*

[personal profile] lark_ascends 2006-03-29 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, my Ent fic, and my NCIS are mainly angst. Somehow, I haven't really been able to write beyond humour for SG-1 and Atlantis. I think I've written only one serious SG-1 piece.

I think it is also because I've come so late into the fandom, that most of the ideas I might have had for writing have been already written. There's so much angst out there, that I can't come up with new stuff.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:05 am (UTC)(link)

Dang nammit, you've figured me out. I hate dialog! It always sounds clumsy to me and I really hate writing things like "he said" or "she mumbled", so I write a sentence and then describe their actions with it. Bad habit perhaps, but sometimes it works. Sometimes it fails miserably. *grins*

[personal profile] lark_ascends 2006-03-29 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
Interestingly, the first time I really noticed it was with the RR, when you described Zelenka and Rodney working together, and mumbling ...etc.

I hadn't really picked up on it till then. But I love your writing, so obviously you can't be doing too much wrong ;-P

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hee, thanks.
That RR should be interesting. If we ever finish it we may have to smooth it over some, in case it's obvious which of us is writing, though so far it's not too obvious to me.

...speaking of which... *hums innocently*
lark_ascends: Blue and purple dragonfly, green background (Pathetic Puss)

[personal profile] lark_ascends 2006-03-29 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Iknow, I know, I'm bad RR person...especially seeing as I suggested the two day turn around. I have to reread it, and then write, which won't happen until the weekend, probably. It *might* happen tonight...before NCIS, but otherwise, the weekend. I'm going to be more sleep deprived over the next two days.

So far, I don't think it's obvious. ANd remember, you're allowed to add bits in to what the other person has written, if you think of something extra.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2006-03-29 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hehehe! *takes finger off the guilt button and grins evilly*

Don't worry. It's cool! I'll have to reread too by now. I can only vaguely remember making them mumble... :P

Oh and I didn't post the CD, so I'll just give it to you on Saturday. Hee! I haven't had a scifi-a-thon since highschool. It shall be fun!

*shakes finger back at evil starrylizard*

I have to do the dvd...I'll get that done by Saturday...ah, I can burn it while I'm watching NCIS tonight, that'll work.

Yep, it shall definitely be fun!!
