A friend of mine has an iPod and she want a few of my avi files, but she says they won't go onto her iPod. What do I need to change the avi file into something even a stupid Mac iPod accepts?

I'm assuming some of you do this all the time, so I'm asking before looking at forums this time.

Free software only. Thank you! Mwa xx

Edit: Okay, from my googling I've decided to try Any Video Converter and I'm converting to something called a MP4. Does that sound about right?

Zamzar shows that it will convert .AVI into .MP4, which should work on an iPod as far as I know. ;) You might do a "test pilot" ep and see if it works before you go to all of the trouble of converting them all. ;)

*crosses fingers* Good luck! :D ♥!

hrrm, thanks. I was hoping for a program, so I don't have to upload and download them all. The downloading bit is fine, it's the upload that won't likely work for me.

Thanks though. :)

Yeah, that part sucks for me, too, sorry about that! Hopefully somebody else will have a free converting program to rec you (I'd be interested in that as well! ;) ).

*uses smexy JDM icon to hopefully help make up for the disappointment* ;)

Nya, you have discovered my weakness. *pervs happily*

You wouldn't happen to know which Grey's Anatomy eps have our lovable JDM in them? I'm not that into the show, but... :P

This here looks promising (http://www.ehow.com/how_2111918_convert-avi-movies-ipod-format.html) -- or not, only for Macs. :(

Isn't he just yum? ;) *pervs along with you* ;)

I only actually watched clips of his early GA eps because I've never actually watched the show either but IMDB has a listing of all of his eps here. I didn't realize he's been in 23 eps all together!

*hands you some JDM perving cookies so we can keep up our strength* ;) ♥!

ETA: Here's what the [livejournal.com profile] vidding comm has under their conversion software tag. Maybe there will be something in there that could help? *fingers crossed* :D

Thanks!

*nom nom nom* You sure know how to keep a gal happy! *G*

I've found two possibilities.
http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/
and
http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/

Just wandering through vidding as suggested now. :)

I was just coming back here to mention Any Video Converter. ;) I've heard others rec that one before but I couldn't remember its name until I stumbled across it just now here. Good luck, hon! I hope you'll find one that will work for you! *keeps fingers crossed* ;)

Cool! I'm trying that one. I do remember someone recommending that for some other purpose once... though I can't remember what that was exactly. :P

I was going to recommend DVDVideoSoft which I used when I had a normal computer. =)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Ah, shall try that if this doesn't pan out! Thank you! :D

I use iSquint, but that's for Mac...

And not all MP4 types play on iPod. It has to be certain codecs or something.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Yeah, I have a feeling this one won't work, since it took forever to convert it and then asked if I'd like to upgrade to a paid version for iPod formats.

I use a PC, but hopefully if this doesn't work for her, I can use the other program suggested above.

Thanks for your input. :)

Try doing a search on download.com or cnet.com for "ipod video converter" and see what comes up.

I would really recommend iSquint to any Mac user and wish someone could come up with something similar for PC. Takes about 5 to 6 mins to convert a 350MB ep. Just drag & drop and hit the convert button. Simple & fast.

I think you need to make sure it's an Ipod compatible mp4.

I use Videora Ipod Converter to convert and its awesome... It has Ipod presets so the file comes out ready to go on my music player.

You've probably got this all done and dusted, but http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/free-dvd-video-software.htm is just fantastic - and free! It converts most files to MP4 for iPod use. Also has a YouTube downloader which is so easy to use even I can do it!

I also use Videora which is quite nice but sometimes decides not to work for no apparent reason! (Although I think that's more likely me not the program!)

Thank you! Sounds like a useful program. I'll nab it for sure. :)

I use AVS Video Converter (torrent!) It's as simple as clicking the "Ipod" button. I've put lots of fanvids on my iphone with it. :D
(i actually posted a tut for it on svs http://www.supernaturalvideostation.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=57505#p57505 )

From: [identity profile] sarlania.livejournal.com

Ohhhhh wow that's great!!!! Thanks for recommending it - I was just looking for a mac converter myself.

Hehe thanks!!!! I love Roger so much! I was able to see him win his 16th live in RLA a few weeks ago. =)

*gasp* GET.OUT! :) I'm so jealous!! I'd love to have been there. Sadly nothing ever comes anywhere near where I live. :(

From: [identity profile] sarlania.livejournal.com

8O but you live in the states. You have the US Open and two masters events while Melbourne just has the AO.

From: [identity profile] crystalsc.livejournal.com

True. But the US Open is in NY and I live 13 hours away. Kind of expensive to go. :( Maybe one day...... :D

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

I have a feeling I may need the paid version. Or is that where the *torrent* comes in? *G* Thanks!

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Hehe, I think I'm fine with the other programs mentioned, so no worries. But thank you!
