like the fifth crack episode in a row? Has Supernatural lost the plot completely?
Yes it's mildly amusing. Although, that is about the fourth (possibly fifth?) time over the series they've given Sam an uncomfortable itch for their own amusement... and it was wearing really thin last episode. Yep, that's two episodes in a row Sam has itched for a cheap laugh.
Don't get me wrong, I did actually giggle through much of this episode unlike some of their other crack episodes (I generally like the crack episodes, but usually they are interspersed as one or two eps in a season, right?), BUT where is the apocalypse?
My personal theory is that Kripke, after stating he only had five seasons of material, has now realised that the Js were signed on for six. And I suspect he's been paid a lot of money by the CW to streeeeetch his one last season of material out into two seasons. Therefore all this filler is just that, filler.
Then my experience with watching all billionty seasons of the XFiles where the poor actors were locked into contracts in a similar fashion may simply have made me jaded.
Kripke, please do something to make me believe again. Not that I won't watch anyway (the J's are good and the bits of plot you're giving us are interesting), but it's not the show I fell in love with any more.

P.S. I still love Supernatural. Please don't hate me. :P

I know what you mean. The ep was really funny (and actually I DID really love the reveal of the Trickster being you know who - especially since he was introduced all the way back in s2 and it's almost like Kripke had planned it all along), but I do want some more apocalypse stuff (which I'm sure will be coming up before the hiatus!) Next week's episode looks really silly though. Enough is enough with the real life fan spoofs!

Although I don't want to say anything before the episode airs, I'm anxious about this next one. I too am getting sick of the fandom in cannon thing and have never heard of a LRPing in our Fandom (didn't even know what it was until that episode.)But I trust Kripke and know he'll make it work.

I can take the crack episodes in small doses, but we do seem to be getting quite a few cheap laughs lately...
I mean I liked this one (more than a lot of the crackish ones) and I hung my brain up while watching this one. My major concern is fan servicing.... I don't think a show can work completely if they keep chucking things to us that they think we want to see. Or do that, but be more subtle about it... (I mean I will never tired of brotherly hugs!)
Hate you?! How is that possible?! Even if you said you were never going to watch it again!!

Yep, what you said. It's got me all frustrated. (Even as I liked it in itself as a crack ep... although I think they were trying a little too hard. They seemed to feel the need to explain it was crack the whole time O_o).

I'm sure we'll get back to the apocalypse now, though. I know absolutely nothing about episodes to come (woohoo!), but that seems to be the way things go these days - a block of one type of ep, then a block of another. But yeah, I'd like to get back to the full-on action-and-angst that we got at the beginning of the season, too. But I know a lot of people got sick of that at the time and wanted more monster-of-the-week eps, so... apparently Kripke can't win for trying. ;)

I just checked and it is 4 not 5 episodes. So you're right there. I guess I don't like his new block system of doing things.

But yeah, I agree to some degree. I'd love a good scary ep or some action again. I've just also loved that they've turned "crack" into something important in the last few eps, and it's been great seeing the boys growing as a team again. I'm sure it'll all explode into beautiful angst again soon, though. ;)

"Well, hell, we're not finding anything, so let's just drive a thousand miles and spend a week or two investigating this random thing."
That played *almost* all right when the stakes were less high. But now it's the APOCALYPSE! After showing us what was going on so beautifully in 5.02 and 5.04, all they do is stand around, do a bit of hand-wringing, and then chase random, cracky things. I think the truth is that Kripke has no solid idea how to build this story toward the finale he planned, one good strong step at a time. As you said, he's just throwing things in as filler, and figuring if the characters keep *saying* it's the Apocalypse, that's good enough. I find that wildly annoying.
He's said any number of times that absolutely yes, the Apocalypse-Lucifer situation will wind up with 5.22. Which is good, because the half of the fandom that doesn't hate it is frustrated with the way he keeps ignoring his own story. We've got 14 episodes left, and I'd be willing to be that no more than 6 of them are strong storyline episodes like 5.02 and 5.04.

And then there's the missing apocalypse. And the non-stop crack. I'm still watching and hoping, but right now it's become a show I watch rather than the sweetener that once got me though the week.
And now I really do sound like I'm griping, which I was trying to avoid, so... *smish* Have a nice week.
Here's hoping there really is a Kripke plan and the pieces start coming together next week.

Ah, I can't hate you... because I feel exactly the same way. *clings*
And the thing is...I totally support crack. *glances at some of the weird shit she's produced* But while I love that the show inspires crack, it's too much for me when the show BECOMES crack. I mean, I understand the writing staff continually changes but really guys? Have you seen Seasons 1 and 2? Once in awhile would be amusing, but it's getting to be the tone of the season now. (A fact made even more odd by the fact that the characters are fighting the APOCALYPSE. Eh...Isn't that kind of serious biz? o.O )
It's not that I need every episode to be OMG!ANGST! (I hated Dean's deal in Season 3) but I love how they used to keep the funny understated. There was definitely humor in the earlier episodes but it was always woven thoughout the storyline, it kept true to the show and it wasn't so in your face "HA! LOOK AT ME!!! I AM FUNNY!!!! FUH-NEE!!!"
*headdesk*
As for the fanservice?
