Why the hell did I sign up for a fic exchange? I did it once before and vowed never to do it again... and then I did. :(

More than half the writing time is down and I'm still flailing about in an attempt to find a hook for a story. I have some ideas, but nothing solid.

Freaking out.

Gah!

EDIT: My Friends list is AWESOME! That is all! :)

Hey, if you want to bounce ideas I can chat... but only after I come back from work, since I'm leaving now... and that's in seven hours+

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Cool! Thanks! I may just do something like that... though it may be on the weekend, because by the time you're around, I'll probably be at work. Heh. The joy of timezones.

I have an opening paragraph...partially stolen from a previous comment fic, but it's a start. Who knows, maybe I'll have more by the time we can chat.

*sits to think calmly and rationally*

Thank you. *smish*

No prob! I love talking fic, and I'm slowly clawing my way back to some free time ;-P

Just sent you a very rough draft and hoping your offer still stands. I'd appreciate any thoughts at all. :)

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

What to send me some thoughts and I'll reply tomorrow while I'm at uni? I'll try to be online sometime this weekend.

*kicks my stupid cold of doom and sleep deprivedness at the moment*

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Oh you're sick! :(
*hugs*

I think I have something like a plan now. But I need ideas still. I'll email the VERY rough outline thing. Heh.

Oh, man. Yeah, I just did this exact same freak out for [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen.

I found the sit-yo'-ass-down-'n-just-write approach worked particularly well for squeezing out a revolting, bitty...what's the opposite of cohesive? Whatever that is, my draft is full of that. It's currently sending my beta blind as we speak. That's if her and the priest got the file open alive.

*hopes they did*

When she sends it back I may deny ever having seen it.

I feel your pain. *knuckles your knuckles*

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Hee! I'm sure nothing you could write would be that bad right? But you just cheered me up a lot! Thanks! :P

Actually I have a start of a plan. Which is much better than no plan, so yay! :)

Is it for the Sam challenge? If so, keep in mind that it only needs to be 1,000 words. Pick an aspect of your idea and tell yourself, 1,000 words is only a couple of pages. Maybe that'll make you comfortable enough to expand on it.

I know what you mean, though - there's something about the "homework assignment" aspect of it that tends to make the brain lock right up solid, even though it's supposed to be FUN. *sighs*

Good luck!

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Yep it is indeed for the Sam challenge. I feel a lot better having had my little freak out. In fact I even have an outline of an idea, which is already looking up. *deep breath* I just forgot why I don't do these. I think it'll be fun once I get a moment to sit down and just plonk something on the paper as per usual.

Thanks! :)

*empathizes* Is it Summergen? I'm going to be hermitting up this weekend myself to try and pound through on mine. I'm at about 18%-ish. :-P

Did you read the mod post on how to dissect the prompts if you didn't get any you can work with? Can you mix and match two of the prompts? Do some free-association? Rewatch an episode or two with similar themes?

And like [livejournal.com profile] ficwriter1966 says, keep thinking 1000 words. They go by faster than you think, trust me.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Nope, not summer gen. It's for a Sam gen challenge thingy. [livejournal.com profile] summer_sam_love. I think I did read that interpretation of prompts thing though. It was good. Actually my prompts are awesome, I think I just needed to freak out before I could start writing. :P

Thank you!!

You've already had offers of help, but if you want, you can email me and I'll let you know if I have any ideas that might help.

Sometimes, it's so much easier thinking about fics for other people to write rather than writing your own. LOL!

In other news - how are ya?

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

LOL! I am good in general. Started doing Swing dancing classes the other day, otherwise my life's pretty uninteresting. How about you?

Just found out that Paul McGann is gonna be at Armageddon 2010 in April in Sydney and Melbourne. \o/ Not that I plan my life that far ahead, but... :)

I have so many ficcy people choices. I may just write a bit, bounce off one person, write another bit, bounce off next person... rince, repeat. Ha! LJ is brilliant. :)

From: [identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com

Hmmmmm... Paul McGann, eh? Is it really too early to make decisions like that? Only thing that might stop me is a conference, but if there are no clashes on that front...

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Yep, I'm the same. :)

Hey Derry? Where does one find the good Hornblower fic? Is any of it housed online these days? Gen of course. I'd love to read something involving Bush, Hornblower and Kennedy in some combination. Just watched "Mutiny" and I'm just adoring them all. Really need to rewatch from the start at some point. I'm figuring out which ones I missed because Dad watched them without me. :P

From: [identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com

Well... *shameless self-plug* I wrote a missing scene from Mutiny which is here at fanfiction.net

There is also www.hhfic.com which houses mainly gen with some het (including rampant Mary Sue fics). Lots and lots of h/c. I'd rec for Horatio h/c try JoanC and for Archie h/c try SarahB and SueN to start. And I know a lot of the stuff in that archive was written prior to Mutiny and Retribution being aired and so is "AU" for events in those eps.

There's plenty of slash too, but I'm not sure where the archives are.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Cool! And I dun want slash! Nup! Not interested!
Thank ye! :)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Why thank you! :)

It's good to have unfussy readers on the friends list. Kidding! *smish* :)

From: [identity profile] charis-kalos.livejournal.com

I prefer to think of myself as supportive rather than unfussy ... But, hey, I can be both.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

I was only joking, as per my usual way. *smishes* You are, very much supportive. I appreciate that! I &hearts my flist!

From: [identity profile] charis-kalos.livejournal.com

I was only joking, as per my usual way.

Yes, I got that, I was chuckling as I typed. Forgot that you can't actually see me chuckling.

Caffienekitty has reminded me that I want coffee. What did I do before people in Canada could remind me of such things?

*goes to make coffee*
