A question and poll for any Supernatural fans passing through.
The psychics.
So Sam started getting visions about a year ago - bad dreams, headaches etc.
So far all the other psychics that the guys have come across have had the same timeframe thing of their abilities starting about a year ago.
So, my question is, is this an age dependent thing, or a time-dependent thing?
Because so far all the psychics seemed to be a similar age to Sam, but then they saved that baby and her mother toward the end of S1, and I think John had said something about getting there too late to save some other families.
So that means the chosen children must be of varying ages.
So, do you think they:

I'm interested because I started plotting a story and in it the psychic is only a little kid. I was going under the assumption that they all started to get their abilities about a year ago regardless of age, but then I realised that it could work the other way. So now I'm curious what you all think.

There seems to be an emphasis on 1983 which is what I was going to use as an aspect of a fic. This 22 year cycle thing is interesting.
I suppose that would mean that all the ones John briefly mentioned that he "didn't get there in time to save" were last year then? Which would kind of fit with when and why he took off. He did say that there had been no sign for ages and then all the signs he mentioned started up again.

This also begs the question, if it's in cycles, HOW do they become psychics? Because something of the genetic variety would be more random... *mata-ing brain out*

I read a fic once where Mary actually gave her sould and that of her second-born-son in order to save Dean as a baby. Creepy theory
Um, I figure it's something that the demon does to them. He just chooses his minions and gives them abilities. Or something.

Or maybe it's a "into every generation a slayer is born"-type of thing. And they count 22 years as a generation. But if that's it, there's some pretty interesting 44-year-olds around :)

I didn't really think about it actually. I think it's regardless of age. However, I think things may have altered a little in the writing since we saw baby Rosie. Not sure though. It depends on when the demon decided he was going to prepare for the war and stuff. It could be that They aren't older than Sam and Dean.
So I think that all the special children are being activated, regardless of age (so babies are born with their abilities in full swing).
