The thing about the Dalai Lama is that he takes something that in essence you already know, but don't always think about, and then he puts that thought into such simple terms that it just smacks you in the face and you go "well dah! Why didn't I think of it that way?" and wander off feeling sheepish.

He is a very wise man.

This one is going to be printed and hung up somewhere in my house, because it's what I need to remember right now.

Everyday, as soon as you get up, you can develop a sincere positive motivation, thinking, 'I will utilise this day in a more positive way. I should not waste this very day.' And then, at night before bed, check what you've done, asking yourself, 'Did I utilise this day as I planned?'
- His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the fourteenth Dalai Lama

I'm not sure when I stopped doing this, but I just realised I used to get up with a sense of purpose, and now it's more like a sense of defeat before the day has even started. Food for thought... for me anyway.
