I just filled in my postcard to DH, as part of Dawww. So Yokiem and I got to talking in the office and we had this crazy idea and it grew... *hem hem* Read it below and feel free to join in one and all.
The Great Fan Mail Exchange
Have you ever wondered why only Sports stars and movie stars get fan mail and appreciation?
Why, when you have a "real" job and do something useful are you never appreciated for it?
Wouldn't you like to receive some fan mail too?
Are you sitting around feeling bored? Would you like to send someone some fan mail and show them that they are appreciated for who they are and what they do?
If you answered yes to the above questions, then why not participate in a the great fan mail exchange?
Just tell us who you are and what you do, be it student, tax accountant, lion tamer or goat herder. Maybe you like to sing in the shower or play classical piano when no one is listening. Perhaps you think your gardening skills rock or your LJ is pretty hot and you would like someone to notice it. Whatever it is that you'd like to be appreciated for, stick it in a comment below and watch the fan mail flood in.
So, what do people think? Yes, we are nuts, but the idea is fun! Composing such fan mail would be a riot too! Crack!tastic right?
How to be a part of it all.
Step1:
Make a post in your LJ which contains a link to this post. The post you write can say whatever you like (perhaps you would like to thank your adoring fans?), just as long as it has a link back to this post, it's all good.
Anyone is then free to post fan mail to you as a comment to the post you have created.
Step 2:
Respond in a comment to this post which you are reading right now with:
Name: This is your online name or preferred nickname
Information for your fans: Something you'd like to be appreciated for. Fans may also respond to anything they have seen in your Live Journal or on your user info page.
Link: This is the link to the post in your LJ you set up in step 1
For an example, see the first comment below. Mine is very unimaginative...sorry. :p
Step 3:
In putting down a comment below, you agree to send at least one lot of fan mail to someone who has commented below. It can be in any form you like (please nothing really dirty). Letters, e-postcards, music, pictures, poetry, icons, scans of postcards or drawings you have made... The only limit is your imagination and creativity.
The idea is to have fun. This is not a serious exercise in any way. Think of all the crazy things you wanted to say to your favourite star when you were a kid (or still do now) and then go with it.
You may include any of their interests, etc. that are mentioned in their public journal or user info and of course whatever is included in the comment below.
Please be nice. The idea is to cheer people up in a silly cracky way and hopefully make them have a giggle and feel good.
Please have a sense of humour about this...please! The idea is to flatter, but not in a serious way. Think like those really obsessed teenage fans...or the most over the top fandom friend that you have, then start writing some fan mail.
It goes without saying, no flaming and please use your common sense and keep it clean unless you really know the person and what their sensibilities are.
EDIT: Just thought I'd add that there's nothing to stop you responding to your fanmail. Sign a few autographs...
