[livejournal.com profile] lavvyan summed up the shenanigans this time in her post here.

Basically LJ has set the default for all private journals and communities to screen comments from non-friends with links.

I suggest you check your settings if you disagree with these settings.

I've changed the setting already this morning for pretty much every community I have access to (including [livejournal.com profile] spn_vs_cops_fic, Rinne), so I hope the other mods are okay with that. You can change it back if not. :)

Thanks for the heads up...

Wow... did they send notifications about this? I generally read all the notices they send. Maybe I missed it...

Thanks for making the comm changes. :)

Nope they didn't that I saw and I take it that they didn't from Lavvyan's post too. *eyeroll* So if you post a link in a community that isn't aware of this change it'll be screened. Oh yay! So not impressed.

You're welcome.

Nothing was being screened before by default. Now they're screening any comment that has a link in it. It's part of their anti-spam campaign. Apparently they plan to hide it all. lol.

I'm in two minds about it, considering the level of spam I've seen around. ;-) But, I'm changing the settings on most of my comms.

Well, I guess it makes it less likely for people to click on the links if they are stupid enough to do it. *shrugs*

And it'll hide links people leave that are totally on-topic and reasonable.

Yeah. The non-friends for comms makes me go bwah? Non-members would make more sense for a default for that if they're going to change the default to screen some comments.

:-) Yeah, there was multiple settings. Which non-friends doesn't make much sense for comms and that was what it was set as.

Okay, I think I've gotten both you and I confused...

What I was saying was that that one button could be set as non-friends, or non-members, etc. For comms, the first doesn't make much sense to me.

Oh LJ has changed the default settings, so if someone comments to a post and their comment has a link in it, then the comment will automatically be screened. That is the little button with a eye in it that you can see at the bottom right hand side of this post. Then you would have to physically unscreen it to allow any other person to view that comment.
