Region code unlock

I told my Aunt (and my parents) that she shouldn't buy DVDs while she was here, because chances are she won't be able to play them when she gets home. I TOLD HER! Because she always buys good brand name products and they are always the hardest to unlock.

Just got a call. The DVD she bought here doesn't work, can I help? GAH! *dramatic flail*

Of course now mum is looking at me hopefully, but my google!fu is not finding an unlock code and there likely isn't one. But just in case...

Does anyone know if there is an unlock code for the Toshiba D-R410KU DVD player/recorder?

Not a certainty but this sight has some for other Toshiba models and some seem to share same codes so possibly worth comparing them for Toshiba models on their and have her try all the different known Toshiba ones?

Sometimes searching for the specific model number results in nothing, because all of them in the brand have the same unlock code. I had that problem with the cheapy I bought a while ago--took me a while to realise that I just had to search for the brand name.

hmm, I'm just worried that if that isn't the case, the code will mess up her DVD player. *nibbles lip anxiously*

Aren't DVD players nowadays pretty much region free?

Only in Australia. We implemented legislation and they have to be so. However, the rest of the world is still stuck with region codes. Luckily most DVD players are easily unlocked...but I can't find the codes for this one.

My Aunt is Canadian, you see.

Ahh.... ok. They're pretty much region free in most of south east asia as well. I think.

She should've bought a DVD player back instead, that would've been more useful.
