Is there a name for the sounds a DJ makes that are (or were) made by scratching a record back and forth? And does anyone know where I can find some free sound bites of that sort of thing?

No idea what you'd call that. I typed in turntable scratch and I got a few hits. Maybe record scratch?? Have a play - you might find what you are looking for.

My other fav free sound site has been suspended... :((((
