Badger Badger

Our team name has badgers in it, so I asked out of curiosity: "What's with the badgers?"
One team member tells me: "Looks up Badger badger badger on youtube. There's all these badgers that pop up and it's hilarious..."

Okay, I'm assuming this is it, but I still don't get it.

I remember a time when you only had to say, "Badger, badger, badger, badger," to someone to be greeted with the intantaneous reply, "Mushroom, mushroom!"
