How do I get audio books (ones I didn't buy on iTunes, but ripped or dled from other sources) to be recognised as audio books in iTunes?

In that, at the moment, it just thinks they are music files and random chapters pop up when you're listening to music. Is it possible to make iTunes see that they aren't music?

Hmm, but I'll still have issues if I hit random play on all the music. I have a LOT of audio books. I guess I'll only put on the ones I want to listen to at the time and hopefully they won't come up too often that way.

Thanks

As a new user, I kinda want to send a list of improvements I want them to make.

You can get a program that converts mp3 to m4b. I'll dig around for a PC version.

Ooh if you click the "playback from last position" on the file, then you don't need to convert. You'd still have multiple files though. All the stuff to learn. :P

Oh, the other thing, if you go into the info of the files there is a tickbox for 'skip when shuffling'. If you wanted to do as [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle suggested and just put them in a plalist you can select all tracks and then do a mass change.

oooh thank you. If you find out the program name, that'd be awesome and I'll use the ticky box 'til then. :)

Oh, hey. I just read on a site that you can just change the 'media kind' to audiobook. You might want to still use the ticky box as well, but that does add them to the book playlist.

Otherwise. Try this link: http://www.shivaranjan.com/2007/07/01/ipod-how-to-convert-mp3-files-to-ipod-audio-book-format-m4b/

The reason I convert to M4B is that if you have audiobooks in multiple mp3 files it'll combine them into one, and still keep chapter markings if you so choose. Just tidier.
