Internet Censorship Plan Gets the Green Light

Eeek.

I think I'm going to check out the discussion paper. It seems it may be too late for public input though. I'm annoyed this is the first I've heard of it. *wibble* Sounds like a stupid idea, especially when they're blocking more than just known child porn sites, which is what they are basing the need for this thing on.

If you're unhappy about it, and you should be, because it's gonna cost you a shitload of your taxpayers dollars to slow up your internet and NOT achieve its stated protection outcomes, then go
HERE

You can send an email to both Senator Conroy and the Shadow Communications Minister, Tony Smith, direct from that site.

I have a pal who worked for one of the service providers who participated in the trial, and they said it not only doesn't work to filter out bad content, it doesn't even nearly work. It just slows everything up and blocks 1 in 12 legitimate sites.

It sounds like a disaster to me, from the research I've pottered about in. I can't find anything positive to say about it. I did a post on this a while back...I think it may have even been as far as last Christmas, so the issue's been on the cards for a while. But yes, the public consultation part has been kind of non-existent. Or badly promoted. Or both.
