Between the Lines of Fear and Blame by [livejournal.com profile] faye_dartmouth (Gen)

Summary: In the hunt for Lucifer, Sam is hurt and Dean has to embark on a quest to find his brother in more ways than one.

It's THE most amazing Sam character study ever written. It takes in all the major events in his life, showing how they shaped him, drove him to his decisions for better or worse... and you see it all through Dean's eyes and dawning understanding. It's wonderful writing. Ever so insightful!

I just finished reading this fic over on ffnet. While I don't agree with everything in it, it's an amazingly well-written fic and Faye writes both boys incredibly well. It's clear she's very invested in Sam's emotional well-being, and I think she goes a really long way in try to justify his current state of mind both to Dean and the audience in general.

I agree that some of Dean's emotions don't seem quite right to me, especially his level of ignorance and hate at some points, but Sam works for me perfectly for that point in time and assuming the backstory she has created is the case. Which of course is only her interpretation, so I just take it as gospel while reading the fic. :)

I'm not entirely sold on the whole 'Sam wanting to commit suicide' thing to be honest (being self destructive as he was while Dean was in Hell is different to being suicidal). But like you said, that's Faye's interpretation and she did make a really good case for it.

Yep! That's what I mean. It's one person's interpretation...and in fanfic, that doesn't even always mean it's what they believe is really going on... and she does it very well. *nods* Plus it's creepy with the black-eyed guide etc. :)

I'm reading this over on ffnet. It's so thought-provoking, I adore it.
