Help, what do you call the thing you use to flip an egg over with when you're frying one up? It's like a flat thing on the end of a handle.

I offered up "spatula" but was poo-pahed. "Flipper" also didn't satisfy my dad. There's another word for it and until someone comes up with it, Dad is not gonna stop bringing it up and it's driving me insane.

First person to give me the word...I dunno, ask me for something you think I'll be able to provide and it's yours. Just make him stop!

EDIT: Ah very educational. Thank you, people! :)

EDIT again: Bwahahahahaha! He's calling his mother (my Grandmother)! Oh, I love my family! *listens* She doesn't know either! CLASSIC! The conversation is cracking me up!

"Well ask Dad, he'll know!" "Well, have you heard it called a spatula?" "It's not a spatula, I swear it and I grew up in your house. You never call it a spatula!"

OMG! Family! *dies o laughter*

"Yeah, I know people call it a spatula, but it's not!" I think my Grandpa is looking up references now. Heeeee!

"Oh, now you're just making stuff up so I think you think you know what you're talking about, but you don't. It's not a toast flipper!" Ha!

EDIT yet again: Okay looks like they've decided on EGG LIFTER! Thank God for that!!

Dad mentioned egg turner and I was all "nah, that's a timer isn't it?" lol I think he'll go with that. Phew! Crisis averted. Mwa! xx

I think this is a cultural/regional thing. A quick google has given me turner, flipper, spatula, fish slice and frying scoop.

I did an image search for 'kitchen utensils', several pictures of which have images of that item with labels. Then I did a search for those common names and found the wiki entry for spatula. That give me the list of other names.

When I was growing up my folks called theirs "Molly". I have no idea why.

I suspect it is very much a cultural thing. I don't even know what I call it because I never need to ask for one, living on my own. Maybe flipper, possibly spatula. Not 'Molly'. Never heard of 'egg lifter', it makes me think of tongs. :-D

Hee! Yeah, maybe we should just name ours. lol
I woulda called it a flipper or a spatula or probably "Hand me that turny thing that does this *waves hands in flippy motion", but that's just me. :P

Families! lol
