he's at it again!

There's this weird little black and white bird that hangs around our house and the neighbour's house and he's taken to attacking the windows. You hear a little *thunk* and if you peer out the little guy is swooping down and beak-butting the window. I assume he sees a reflection and thinks it's another bird, but I wish I could stop him.

I'm sitting at my desk, which faces the window, watching him repeatedly take runs at my window or the neighbour's windows across the way. Stupid little muppet of a bird. *head shake* He doesn't seem to be getting hurt, so that's good at least.

LOL! Silly birdo. Try this website to see if you can find out what he is... Does he look like a magpie but smaller and spindlier? Magpie Larks are reknowned for being defensive, protective little buggers.

Oooh cool! It is indeed a magpie-lark from the pictures. We get a lot of them around here, but I've never seen them do this before. :P

LOL! They're pretty freaky little things. They are faily well known for their antiphonal calling - the males call a bit of a song and then the females will answer with the other half of the song. The males guard their mates pretty fiercely, and that's what makes them go a little loopy when they can see their reflection in thigs like windows, car mirrors and car windows. It's because males don't pair with females for a few years after they become sexually active and they will go and try and steal other males until they find a mate. Little birdy tom cats!
