[livejournal.com profile] mayblossom pointed out THIS, article in which Colm Meany talks a little about the American version of Life on Mars. He doesn't give away much, but what also interested me is that he mentions the writer's strikes and says that the "Screen Actors Guild" is also planning a strike. Huh.

I still don't quite understand why they're remaking LoM. I suppose if it's set in America there's quite a lot of differences there to play on, but I wish more British TV shows would get picked up by the commercial stations here and in America. They're great! :)

Anyway, I'll just sit back and see. I bet the American version is the one that makes it to our commercial stations too.

Most American re-made TV shows pretty much suck. Let's take a couple of examples such as Blackpool which was renamed as... I can't even remember the name it was so bad that I've blocked it from my memory. It sucked. The Office started out really really awkward and now I can finally watch it but it's still not the same as the British version. I would hate to see what the Americans would do to Little Britain. I can't think of another example but I'm sure that there are more.

I'm just going to pretend like LOM doesn't exist on American tv when it finally airs even though I live in America. *hides under a rock*

Our TV isn't much better. We don't remake Brit TV shows, but they are generally only aired on ABC or sometimes SBS (The Government Stations). The commercial stations only pick up American TV.

Just for another example, Queer as Folk was interesting, in your face, but often highly amusing, while actually highlighting a lifestyle most of us straight people don't really know anything about. The American version is a bunch of gay actors getting it on amidst viagra jokes. To be honest I haven't ever watched more than a few episodes, but it didn't win me over.

Lol, I didn't know there was an American and British version of Queer as Folk. OMG, I can't even imagine if they tried to redo Torchwood or one of my other favorite shows. I think that they would fail miserably if they did. Most of the shows get canceled, even if they do throw some big American celebrities on them.
