I'm planning on getting a desktop computer for the new year. My poor laptop can't take the strain I've been placing on it and (assuming all goes well) I'm going to be writing a thesis too.

So, could anyone (Flist or not) please advise me of what is considered good in a PC these days? I want it to be able to have a large storage capacity, as well as being speedy obviously. I like using Photoshop, I'd like to be able to vid using WMM without the darn thing crashing and just generally be a computer that I could update and keep going for a few years. Anything else I should be looking for? OK so please, if you have any knowledge or know-how in computers at all or have recently purchased one, could you fill me in?

Vidding update, because this is too funny: OK so since making the Ghostbusters vid, I now officially have not one, not three, but SEVEN SGA vid ideas swirling around in my head!! Bwahahahaha! I can so hear Derry laughing at me right now.

Anyway, I'm going to hold off for a while and see if I can't find a nice PC first. I. Can. Resist. Eeek!

Okay, now I found out that they Dad got the parts and built it. :-)

But it apparently wasn't hard to build, you just needed to know what bits you needed. It was approximately $600 (minus the monitor and one harddrive we had).
