OK, so WMM keeps asking for a codec each time I try to use an AVI file, then it says it's downloaded it and that if I can't use the file then i should restart the program. I do and it still doesn't work...instead it says that it's downloading the codec and the whole thing repeats.

Am I doing something wrong? Should I be changing the AVI files to a different format or something? I'm so annoyed, because I was finally going to try to start vidding tonight. I think I've figured out most of the necessary buttons in WMM to make a start and I can't.

*frowns*
*lip wobble*

Help? Please?
Anyone?

EDIT: WOO YEAH BABY! It works, it works! It's ALIVE!!! Mwahahahahahaha!

*cackles with glee and dances about the room*

I don't know what made it work exactly...DivX or restarting or whatever...but in the words of the Rodney "I really don't care!".

THANKYOU lovely flist! Only problem is now it's 10pm and I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is a new day though!

Hmmm. These are the same avi files that you watch the eps in right? do you watch them on Windows Media Player. Coz in my experience, what's compatible with the media player is compatible with the movie maker.

If you aren't watching them on the windows media player it might help to go to the windows site and download the latest version - I would think that would contain all the necesary codecs. But I must admit that I'm guessing because I've never run into that particular problem before.

I dunno if another format might help. The only one I can think of that might work better is wmv. I think you can get some wmv files of ep off [livejournal.com profile] stargate_eps. Or if it's very specific footage you are looking for, I might be able to convert some clips to wmv and send them to you.

But WMM ususally works for avi for me, as long as you've got the DivX codec.

Good luck! I'd love to see your vid!

Yeah I do watch them in WMP, that's why it's weird!
I'll have a go with some other avi files later and see if it keeps it up. Plus once I stop dling ScannersII I can try restarting the whole computer. Maybe that will help, but I may be overly hopeful. I'd hate to have to dl them all again. I think I may have a program to convert files into different formats, so I may look into that if I really can't get it to work.
Tre frustrating.
Thanks Derry.

That is really weird. And no, you don't need to change them into a different formet - avi files work fine with my WMM.

Have you got Div X? I mean, you probably have the codecs for it (since you can play the files) but, if you don't have the whole thing already, maybe it'll make a difference.

Um Please explain?? I went to the site. Do I download the program or something and what does it do? *clueless*

Div X player. A lot (most) of the avi files of Stargate (the good ones, anyway) are in the Div X codec. Downloading the player gets you all of those codecs.
