I can't believe George W. Bush just vetoed stem cell research in America.
The embryos they are talking about are leftover after in vitro fertilization treatments, are donated by the man and woman involved, and are to be destroyed since they are no longer needed for the treatments.
It seems more than small-minded to me to destroy them when people are willing to donate to research, considering the amazing potential for possible therapies and treatments to a wide variety of diseases and injuries that could come from this research.
There was also apparently (according to the news here) over 60% of Americans polled who agreed with this research be carried out.
I realise that there are serious moral and religious implications of this research, yet for one man, no matter his position, to stifle all debate and democratic rights on this issue and simply force his personal opinion onto every American seems archaic and wrong to me.

There are definitely moral implications, but Bush shouldn't be able to veto it when so many people are in favour....
I can't wait until his term is over.

The joy of a democracy is we don't all have to agree with each other, but we can all have our say. I just can't believe that the president has that kind of power.
