I got a call today saying that my mp3 player was back and they were unable to fix it, so please come down and pick out a new one.
I wandered down with the receipt etc. only to be told that the mp3 player I have (8GB Creative Zen micro) had been discontinued, so I could pick up any other item to the same value. This happened last time with the faulty iRiver (20GB) and I was forced to pay an extra $70 for the Creative Zen (8GB), because it was the closest thing in stock.
This time they had iPods or Creative Zen's in the 4GB or 30GB, but no 8GB ones. The 30GB would again mean that I had to spend an extra $80 to get the replacement product. I almost did and then I realised this was way too unfair.
So, I explained calmly, that the iPod's don't have the features I wanted (especially the built in microphone) and that I was not going to be forced to get a smaller hard drive once again, because the 8GB only just manages to serve one of the main uses I have for it, which is that of transferring files. I also explained that I thought it was massively unfair for the store to be profitting from the fact that their products were faulty - especially the iRiver that I bought originally, which the guy had previously explained was pretty much a 8GB product with a 20GB harddrive shoved in that failed for almost everyone that bought the damn thing. And that, surely he could see why this might make me somewhat angry, being forced once again to pay over $70 for a "replacement" product when I paid to have a warranty on the thing for exactly that reason.
Anyway, the guy blinked a few times and went off to talk to the manager.
The upshot of all this. I got a 30GB Creative Zen Video for the same price as my old 8GB version. And as an added bonus I can now play videos, not that I can see why I'd want to watch them on the teeny tiny screen, but still... Woo!
And that is the power of complaint! :)
I also found The Blue Oyster Cult, The Eagles, and Muddy Waters for really cheap. And then realised that these are all most likely in my Dad's record collection and if he knew he'd be pointing at me and giggling like a girl. Hmmm!
Off to load software and start reloading my mp3 with music for the third time. And 'aint that annoying, even if I did get a better one. I just hope anyone who manages to get into the hard drive on the old one enjoys the slash fiction and episodes of heroes, SGA and BSG that I'm sure were still on it. *grins wolfishly*
