Just came back from lunch with Yokiem and another friend in the Student Room. Yokiem brought her lunch from home, so she beat us down there and got bored waiting, so she turned on the TV. We haven't actually used the TV since cricket season, but when I say TV, I mean there is a TV/VCR/DVD combo thing tied into a projector, so when you turn off the lights it's kinda like watching a movie screen. Plus there are nice comfy couches to lounge about on.
So yeah, we got bored with Oprah and ended up watching Days of Our Lives. Seriously, I've never really been into soapies and this was hilarious. The three of us were doing voice overs and preempting what the characters would do next, plus the story recapping on these shows is hilarious.
They had this whole scene where one guy's dialogue told us how this woman had not had one, but two bouts of amnesia, of which she hadn't recovered from either one yet. And her doctor (the guy doing the dialogue-ing) had just revealed that he was actually her husband. His reason for not telling her sooner -- "I was afraid that if I pushed her too early she might have a psychotic break" I kid you not.
OMG! Hilarious! Best lunchtime fun I've had in ages. Plus it reminded me again of my 'Days in Atlantis' crack that I was on for a while -- before I realised there were RPGs on LJ already doing a better job than me.
Yes I tried to rope some of you into writing this round robin-style with me, but had to give up. You're all just too intelligent to join in with my stupidity. *grins* Smart people!
Days of Atlantis; Like matter through a worm hole; so are the days of Atlantis
Intro: In this series, we are introduced to the characters of Atlantis; a group of intrepid explorers, both civilian and military, from several countries, who came to the Pegasus galaxy and the city of Atlantis via the Stargate. They regularly go out and fight a deadly enemy known as the Wraith and are generally fighting for their survival. However, this side of things takes a back seat in this particular series and is only outlined briefly when necessary in order to make way for the real fun.
Such an emotionally charged atmosphere is obviously the perfect setting for a soap opera of a high calibre, as the men and women of Atlantis fight, love, wheedle, snark and sleep their way into all kinds of interesting intrigue.
As for the most recent SG1 and SGA episodes (10.5 and 3.5), may I say "Wha?"
Yes, I enjoyed them and I'm not complaining, but I think SGA just completely stole from its older sibling (SG1) in the most spectacular style. I mean, come on, they just stole a whole plot line!! Still loved the episode, but yeah...weird.
SG1 just screamed B grade horror flick to me. Did you see the creatures they mutated into? And then when they killed them and they just sort of fell over. And the whole dissection scene and...
Was I the only one getting flashbacks to when the X files turned cracky? Tell me you weren't laughing at the whole thing. Yes, I know it was deliberate, or at least I hope it was, because it was pretty damn funny, but I've only read reviews so far in which people praised the brilliance of the episodes in such a way that I was wondering if I was the only one taking it as sooo much crack?!
