Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein's trial has been delayed until September to determine whether she has legal immunity due to her work with the United Nations. This is despite her resignation from the UN work she was doing because she says she wants to be tried and flogged to demonstrate her point. She sure is getting her point out there, too. Public demonstrations! Gosh, she is amazing!

Two of today's articles and some quotes from them below:

Judge adjourns Sudanese woman's 'trouser trial'
The trial of a Sudanese woman journalist who faces 40 lashes for wearing trousers has been adjourned as police used tear gas to disperse hundreds of demonstrators outside the Khartoum court.

Hussein has said that she wants to be tried, in defiance of a law that decrees whipping for wearers of 'indecent' clothes, and told a hearing last week that she wished to waive her UN immunity.

Protests as Sudan 'tight pants' trial delayed
Protesters gathered outside the courtroom in Khartoum Tuesday to support al-Hussein, carrying banners and wearing headbands with the messages, "No return to the dark ages" and "No to suppressing women."

Al-Hussein told the British Broadcasting Corporation that she wants a public flogging to make a point about the treatment of women in Sudan. She even sent out 500 invitations to witness her lashings.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad there is a strong showing of support for Lubna.

You're welcome. I'm really inspired by her. Sounds like she's definitely getting her story out there. It also sort of sounds like they may end up releasing her on the grounds that she was working for the UN at the time. It'd probably be a good outcome really, because she will have managed to get her story out there in the meantime.
