Lubna 'ready for 40,000' lashes to change harsh law - The latest update today.

I just cannot believe...no, I do not want to believe, that in this day and age, a woman can still be whipped for wearing something inappropriate. And she was wearing trousers for crying out loud! Trousers! When every morning I can watch women dancing in their underwear on music videos.

There has been so many bad things going on in the western world lately, with shootings and murders and babies being killed (there was a woman in America who recently murdered her baby and ate its brains, and last week a whole family was bludgeoned to death in Melbourne - murderer and motive yet to be discovered). And yet, I find this story the most surreal to me. I want to bundle this woman up and take her home for being so damn brave. And I wish there was something, even a small thing, I could do to help.

By bringing the practice into the public eye "I've already won half the battle," she said, vowing to wear the same "indecent" clothes to her judgment tomorrow.

I regularly really hate and despair of this world we live in.

I try really hard to believe people are inherently good. This kinda thing...a lot of things in the news lately... they're shaking my foundations. I'm just going to send out good vibes to all and hope that tomorrows news is a little better all around.

This is ridiculous! It's unbelievable how often basic human rights seem not to matter. All over the world, you can find that even in countries that are so proud of granting human rights to everyone but the reality looks different. It shouldn't be so hard to treat other people the way you yourselves want to be treated.

I suppose it's a good thing that we only hear a fraction of the terrible things that happen every single day in this world. I'm sure it would result in most of us not being able to get out of bed.

I'm in awe of that woman for her bravery.

It's amazing to imagine needing to stand up for what we would consider such a basic right.

Latest update (http://www.smh.com.au/world/ready-to-take-a-flogging-for-wearing-trousers-20090803-e7bh.html), she is due in court today so no verdict as yet.

Things like this make it so, so hard to continue to think positively of different people. People who perpetuate cruelty like this - as law! - make it very difficult to not think racist or intolerant thoughts.

She's a brave woman. I wish her victory and safety and success.

Yes indeed. She is due in court today, so no verdict yet, but I'll be watching. I really hope she's brought enough attention to the situation that they let her go.
