For those vidders hanging around, is Imeem still considered better/safer than Youtube or are they pretty much on par these days? I know they had various deals with big record companies etc. similar to Youtube, but I often hear vidders tell me it's so much better.

Is it just because of the quality or is it actually safer somehow? Or is Imeem more of a community?

Would anyone be interested if I had my vids up there? I have a few up on Imeem that people asked me to upload, but otherwise I haven't used it.

*shrugs and looks to flist* I don't really get Imeem, but I'm willing to play if it's worth the time. :)

For as far as getting removed for copyright violations, iMeem seems a bit "safer" at the moment. [livejournal.com profile] vidding has put up quite a bit of info about the various hosting places just tonight and it's looking kinda bleak in the near future for all of the streaming hosts, I'd say, unless vidders get some sort of protection under Fair Use. :( *fingers crossed that one day the music and entertainment industries will see us as free promotion for their products!* ;)

As for the quality, we (at LVI) have been getting in more iMeem vids lately and in some cases the beat is significantly off (as in more than a second or two in some cases, leading to a lot of "Godzilla" bad dubbing if the vid has dialog in it o_O ;) ) and uploading again doesn't seem to do anything to help correct it. :S

I have a couple of my vids there and haven't noticed any problem with the audio syncing so I guess it's just a matter of luck and how your vids were encoded and the like! ;) ♥!

hmm, interesting. It is starting to look bleak for streaming sites if the few things I've read regarding Youtube are correct. Usually, they ripple down to the smaller sites sooner or later adn I know Imeem had pretty similar deals to Youtube.

Thanks, I'm reading some of the vidding links now. What a coincidence. :)

Speaking as a vid watcher with a freakishly old mac, anytime anything from imeem tries to load, my browser crashes. I've got video content suppressed when viewing LJ because of it. :-P Youtube is okay unless the video was loaded at HQ, then the playback tanks and jerks regardless of whether it's fully loaded or not.

But, like I said, freakishly old mac, and as such it doesn't represent most of your viewing audience.

*hugs* I understand totally, I used to be on dial up, back when I was in Sydney, and I did the same thing. I dled vids and hoped they were worth the several hours dl time, because watching them on youtube was ridiculously impossible. I guess that's why all these sites are new and interesting to me now. :)
