I handed in my corrected thesis yesterday. Graduation is in December, but for all intensive purposes I am now Dr Starrylizard. Yay!

So to celebrate, I have uploaded a new LJ banner!

*sobs silently in the corner*

*whispers* I down-graded the other day...

Oh no, honey! *hugs* So you're doing a Masters now? I'm not at all up to date with the flist.

I'm not at all sure it was worth the pain, but I'm glad to have it finally in my grasp anyway. Thank you for the congrats! :)

Unfortunately yes. I've discovered that I find academia rather dull compared to my new job, and I find it quite difficult to justify putting myself through that hell just to get where I already am. It just goes to show you what you can achieve if you are prepared to move out of the convenience of the big smoke a bit, step outside your comfort zone and challenge yourself a little.

I would NEVER have had the same opportunities if I had stayed at home in Melbourne, and I suspect I may very well have been working at the pub when I finished my doctorate. Or even *shudders* going onto Post-doc.

The good news is that I'm not throwing it all away entirely. I'm still going to be getting SOMETHING positive out of it. Which makes me smile...

Oh good! And seriously good on you. I'm at the point now where I'm contemplating stacking shelves at Woolies to get me the hell outta the house each day. I don't want to do a post-doc, but apparently I have no experience useful for the real world. *head meet desk* But, I'm trying to keep a cheery face on it and entertain all options. *sigh*
