Music: Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2 (live, acoustic version)
Fandom: Supernatural
Vidder: [livejournal.com profile] starrylizard
Clips: mostly S1, 2.1, 2.2 and one scene from the S2 finale. No S3.
Summary: John and his boys and the way their lives have been shaped by events beyond their control.

Notes: I started this one aiming to make an angst vid for a challenge, so it's heavy on the angst. I started a Sam vid and it turned into somewhat more of a vid following John, his boys and their unfortunate family history. This one is all slow fades, effects and long scenes. Also, it's a live version of the song, so you can hear the crowd, but I really like this version and to me it's like watching images on a screen at a live concert. All comments, good or bad, are welcome and appreciated. :)

Whoa, extremely angsty! I'm now sitting here with tears in my eyes and my stomach in a knot - in kinda of a good way. Oh, I miss John!

Thank you! *hands over tissues* I miss him too! John is still my favourite Winchester. I didn't really watch the show until I saw the S2 opener and then I was hooked. JDM just made it work for me.

Very angsty indeed! I like the blurred border and the acoustic version.

Thanks! This feels like one of my old WMM vids, before I could use the beat. lol. I keep telling people I don't do angst too well, but I wanted to try. I had fun with the vegas effects though.

How nice is the live version?! It's got so much more emotion in it.

you sly fan! You have been vidding after all! :P

Man, this makes me miss John sooo much *sniff*

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Nah, I made this yesterday. Does that count as being sly? I'm trying to work up some angst vibes to make the Ianto vid I said I'd make...then figure out how to crop that Gorillaz song eventually. Hee!
I swear this was meant to be a Sam vid... really! John just is too cool! Apparently he takes over my vids. :P

You did a really amazing job with this vid! I love the acoustic version of this song, I think that really set the tone. Plus the way you fazed from one scene to the next so smoothly! Awesome!

Is.In.LOVE. I guess you have a new regular viewer now. Thank you so much for this vid.
It has everything I just love. Angst, hurt , ohhhhhh.... Did you use a Cookie Cutter ?? At least it looks like a Cokkie Cutter. When watching a video like yours, I wish I had something like the Cookie Cutter myself. The effects you get are just awesome. And with this video, it adds to the overall feeling. I love the way the picture looks, and using the live version of this song, what a great idea.

Again, thank you for this Vid, I`m happy John was able to take over the storyline. He tends to do so, tehehe.

Don't forget to submit this so I can add it to your page =)

I thinks i sees me some angst her babes :)
I love this version of the song ... took a second listen just to be sure but yep like it.
I like your angst *mourns John and sways with lighter in hand*

*kisses*

Aw I really liked this, Lizzie. Everything was smooth and soft and I think that just made it all the more powerful. I loved how you kept the live version because I definitely think it added a nice element with just the sound being echoy and distant like that. Really lovely. Oh how I miss John! Wonderful work! :D

JDM just made it work for me.

Yes, and now the man's off being a movie star, so we're unlikely to have John flashbacks. Oh well, I guess that's what fanfic is for.

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Thanks Stars! I haven't done a slow vid for a long while, so I wasn't sure what people would make of it. Thanks for your lovely comments! :)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Thank you so much! *smishes you* Yeah there's a few cookie cutter scenes in there (around 1:22 with the gun and then a few more in the hospital scenes). :) I do love John and miss him so. He's taken over a few of my vids. :)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Heee, after I swore I couldn't do it, I decided I had to do one! lol Don't think I'll enter it though. It's such a "sway with the lighter" live version, I just love it! :)

Thanks Hayles.

Yep, seems to be what more than half my fics are for. Never know, he might still do some small parts in between the movies. We can only hope. :)

Never know, he might still do some small parts in between the movies. We can only hope. :)

Fingers and toes crossed.

Hmm, wonder if I can also get my congregations to pray for it? I do pretty much direct a lot of their prayers every Sunday, but I usually focus on things like peace and justice and comfort for the sick and bereaved. Maybe I can branch out?

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

*grins wickedly* Maybe if you say it fast enough they won't notice. This little chicky would pray with you. :)

This was really beautiful. The slow-motion clips matched to the lyrics were really effective (John thrown in "Shadow" and Dean slamming Sam against the bridge in the pilot especially). I love this version of the song; it calls attention to the lyrics, which compliment the angst-ridden relationship between John and the boys. Can I ask where it was recorded?

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Thank you so much! :)
I wish I knew where this version was recorded, but I'm ashamed to say I downloaded it. Someone had a bunch of "rare recordings" most of which were bad covers and such, but this one track was really nice. I'd love to know what concert it was to buy it.

From: [identity profile] ash48.livejournal.com

That really was gorgeous. Great choice with this version of the song and I loved your very slow shots. Very moving. Great job hun.

OMG.

Your choice of song, of that particular version of the song, makes a huge difference, in a way, it's almost intimate, and yet war-like, and the smooth flowing of the clips...wow.
(I just went to check if you posted it at [livejournal.com profile] papawinhcester before asking, and YAY you did! I would have asked, otherwise).

Such a fantastic choice. THANK YOU. I miss John oh SO MUCH, and even more now!

U2 first performed this acoustic version of SBS in Sarajevo during their PopMart tour. Did you know that's Edge, not Bono, singing? Bono needed a break because his voice was shot to hell during this tour and particularly this concert. I think this is the Mexico City version, which is where they recorded the PopMart DVD. If interested, here is the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYlVbw9nKeI

Ooh, John and Edge, two of my very favorite people...Wonderful job, thank you!

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Thank you! And go Edge. It's the best version of the song ever. :)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

I know, I miss him! :(
Thanks so much for your comments! I'm so very pleasantly surprised by the response to this one. And, yeah, you've asked me to post at papawinchester enough that I actually remembered this time. *grin* It's a good comm, and I'm always happy to post there. Thank you!

Erm...sorry *G*

I think you've captured so much of their family and their love for each other, and the disaster that it is, in a way, through the choice of song and your editing (I love how you framed the clips, btw): it's a very intense vid, it deserves comments :D

:D

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Thank you very much for your comments and your information. I seriously wanted to know what concert that was too. :D

From: [identity profile] may7fic.livejournal.com

Lovely. Thanks so much for this.

I miss John too *sniff*

From: [identity profile] bowtrunckle.livejournal.com

Wow, thank you so much for the link!

I thought "Bono's voice" sounded a little different in this vid (quieter/gentler), but I chalked it up to the acoustic version and that it was recorded live. The Edge! :) He also sang Van Diemen's Land on the Rattle and Hum (one of my favorite songs on that album), it's too bad that they fade it out before the song is actually over (if you look on the jacket there are more verses to that song). :(

From: [identity profile] kilikinav.livejournal.com

I love Edge's voice! I have since made it a mission to get as much "Edge-songs" in my collection as possible, but there aren't that many, mostly he's background with an occasional verse (eg Miracle Drug, Seconds, and I ADORE his "wah-wah-wah-wah-wandering" on the Johnny Cash tribute version of The Wanderer). During PopMart Edge originally sang a karaoke set while Bono had to do a change; this became known, appropriately enough, as Edge Karaoke. You can have fun on YouTube with that one! For a really odd but cool song check out Corpse from Passengers:Original Soundtracks 1, a U2/Brian Eno collaboration.

From: [identity profile] kilikinav.livejournal.com

Hee, I just read the "bad covers" part and was wondering if that could be the karaoke. *g*

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Nah, it wasn't all U2 stuff. The covers were of various bands doing various other bands songs. Some of it is pretty amusing actually. Snow Patrol singing Beyonce's Crazy in Love... some Britney Spears songs redone... :P

That was beautiful. *sniffles*

From: [identity profile] bowtrunckle.livejournal.com

Thanks for the song rec!

I saw the PopMart concert way back in the day. Funny I don't remember Edge Karaoke, but then ... heh ... with all of the other "fun" happening maybe not. *wink*

*dies from the mixture of John, U2 and beautiful vid-making*

It's just perfect :) ♥
