Okay, so in the last week I finished watching "Life on Mars" and "Jekyll" and they've reminded me how cool UK TV is. I mean they have these awesome series that are maybe 4-10 eps long and have actual story arcs with real endings and they are simply made of awesome. Add in actors like John Simm and James Nesbett and not having to listen to American accents all the time and I'm in TV heaven.

So, I was wondering if anyone had some other awesome shows shows to recommend to me that may have passed me by?

Other stuff that I have loved include: "Armidillo" when it was on the TV and I need to buy me more "Wire in the Blood" because I didn't realise there were more seasons of it.

Anyway, feel free to recommend some stuff. Pleeeease! *huge grin*

Dexter, starring Michael C. Hall. Seriously. SO GOOD. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll upload the whole first season for you. It's a total must-see, so long as you're not weirded or squicked by violence or some sexual content/nudity. There's not much of the two latter, but, hey, I figured I'd warn. Plus, *points at icon* try and tell me the guy who plays Dexter isn't hot. I dare ya.

I was about to say "Wire in the blood" ;-)

Um, Monarch of the Glen, Waking the Dead.

Waking the Dead, if you've not seen it. But only the first few seasons...

What's "Waking the Dead" since I have 2 comments on that one? :)

Okay! Some of my friends are into that, but they explained the premise and I wasn't sure I would like it. I do have a few eps, but not ep1, so I haven't tried to watch it yet. I think I can get from my RL friends if it's really that good. :)

The original cold case show. No one does crime like the Brits do. 2 hours for each episode, and you're guaranteed to have no idea who's done it. The characters are interesting, and the plots are wonderful, and not glossed over like the American shows do.

Season 1 is available out here. Channel 9 played the first two seasons, I think, over last summer, so they might play the next this summer. Started back in about 2001, I think.

I have Wire in the Blood Seasons 5 and 4. Though I'm not sure if my Season 4 is still watchable as I recently discovered that some of my DVD backups had gone corrupted!

It's a great series and I don't think you have to watch Season 1 to 3 to follow anything. If you like British mysteries, I highly recommend it!

I also have the 11th Season of Silent Witness - so far only 4 eps have aired. I watch these on ABC when they do air too! I'm really a big fan of mysteries/crime stories so I can't help it.

If you don't mind Taggart, I have one ep!

I also have the Scold's Birdle (which I think I gave to yokiem some while back). Yes, it's also a British mystery - only 2 eps but good enough and intriguing.

I haven't heard of that last one. I'd try it. :)

I'm pretty sure you gave me some S4 WitB, because I loved the first season and hadn't realised it contnued. I haven't watched the eps you gave me yet, so I'll have to dig the disc out as soon as I burn the other series off the computer. Ive seen some Silent Witness. That was good, so I'd love the new ones next time we meet up. If your WitB is corrupted let me know and I can give it back to you. :)

Blackpool was pretty awesome, if you haven't seen it already. It's one of those you start watching for David Tennant but end up liking and interested in in its own right (at least, this was the case for me and my roommate).

A completely different sort of show is Spaced. It's not everyone's cup of tea, though.

Cool! Shall look 'em up! Also, David Tennant...yep that'd lure me in too! :)

I also have to recommend Blackpool. It's a detective show where the characters occasionally break out into song. I loved it. I also loved Jekyll. I still haven't seen Life on Mars but that's because it's hard to find online.

If you don't mind watching streaming, you can find Life on Mars at tv-links.co.uk (most of them, anyway). For the ones that aren't there, try YouTube user Jabbe.

It's so worth it.

O_O Sounds interesting. I'll look for it. Thanks! :)

Oooh! I'm so dumb! Derry gave me that on DVD and it's buried somewhere. I've seen bits on the TV and it looked great! *goes to dig it out* Thanks babe! :)

Awesome. I love tv-links. I watched a bunch of classic Doctor Who on there the other day. Thank you. XD

woo! I'll have to watch them when I get back! :)
Off to bed now, so I will get up in time to meet you. :)

'...how cool UK TV is...'

Ha ha, I'm often found complaining how bad UK TV generally is! There are a couple of series/shows here in the UK that I tend not to miss, though:
# Waking the Dead (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/wakingthedead/) (though I see this has already been recommended)
# Spooks/MI-5 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/spooks/)
# Hustle (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/hustle/)
# Midsomer Murders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midsomer_Murders)
# Agatha Christie' Poirot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agatha_Christie's_Poirot).

I have to admit that I haven't seen 'Life on Mars' - though with all the rave reviews I keep seeing, I think I should!

From: [identity profile] finmark.livejournal.com

Oh, and Silent Witness (http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/silentwitness/?)...

Okay, so maybe UK TV isn't all bad...! ;p

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Cool! Most of those have been recced, so I'll have to find them somehow. I've seen the same ep of Spoks a bunch of times, but somehow I always catch the same repeat. :P Shall look for some more eps.

I'm sure there's some crap UK TV too, but we mostly get a lot of American TV and sometimes it's nice for a change and I love that there are series tht are planned and only go for a set number of eps. They just hang together so much better like that!

Thanks! :)
