Just ignore us... we're being silly!
yokiem and I were being silly and came up with a new summary for my latest vid gethsemane... [Should be read in a pompous voice, a sour expression, much eyebrow action and head wobbling. Or read it as a gospel preacher...that cracks me up too.]
An intensely beautiful character study in which one man, Sam Winchester, struggles with his inner demons, his tragic past and future fate. Should he look to god for redemption or is he already in the sway of the darker forces? Why should he die? Must he end his life in order to save his brother, Dean? For surely if he doesn't, his brother may have to kill him and this would surely destroy his own soul in the process. Never has there been a vid with more angst, painful expression and the odd bit of wicked beat use. Don't miss this masterpiece!
*giggles and runs away*
Now with two new piss-take reviews:

Starrylizard is a virtuoso of vidding who seems to particularly excel in creating gut-wrenching, soul-aching masterpiece angst vids. "Boys Will Be Boys" is probably her crowning achivement in this field...

Because I'm an incorrigble pisstake, here's a review of your "Boys Will Be Boys" vid - a masterpiece of angst!
Starrylizard is a virtuoso of vidding who seems to particularly excel in creating gut-wrenching, soul-aching masterpiece angst vids. "Boys Will Be Boys" is probably her crowning achivement in this field. It clearly and evocatively illustrates the tragedy of two young men who were forced to grow up too fast by a tyrannical and abusive patriach, leaving their innocence behind for a life of endless pain and fear. Trying to escape their terrible destiny, they embark on a series of childish pranks against each other in an attempt to reclaim their lost boyhood. Tragically, the abusiveness of their "prank war" escalates, destroying their brotherhood and sending both into a downward spiral of mutual loathing and despair. Starrylizard weaves this epic tale of abuse and betrayal to a harsh, overtly masculine musical piece which is precisely the kind of music sadly lacking in the soundtrack of the source material. Because ultimately boys will be boys, but these two boys are far too broken to cope with their lives and hence darkness is their only destiny.
Whatcha reckon? ;-P

A review of "John Sheppard: Intergalactic Man of Mystery" - a video by
Derry667 has a nack of pulling at my heartstrings and she's done it again with this masterful character study of Lt Col. John Sheppard. Following his heartbreaking failure at marriage, John Sheppard resolves to hide his true self and instead seeks only to satisfy his carnal urge for sex and he's not above using violence or his friends to get it.
While on the surface, he presents a suave confident persona that allows him to gain access to many women, it is obvious that none of them truly satisfy him.
The painful way he disregards his few friends, even as they strive to gain favour with him is deeply saddening, and we are forced to watch as he drags his friends into his own world of sexual perversity and violence.
In the background, there is always the one person who truly understands him. Elizabeth Weir, with her gentle refusals, is completely out of his league. She understands his games and will therefore never allow him to gain a sexual advantage, thus keeping him at a distance out of love.
The voice-overs present in the musical material provide a running dialogue that is hard hitting and serves to hammer home the main themes of lost love, despair and the unending search for happiness in all the wrong places.
Ultimately, John Sheppard s a broken human being, securely hiding his true feelings behind a mask of one-liners and sexual advances, and we are left wondering if he will ever be able to break free and truly love again.
Ha! Yes, it could be a meme, but fandom would probably end up making it into something mean. I'd love to start a journal on this. People could nominate their vids to have the piss taken out of them. We could call it not_the_reel! :P

I love the word tyrannical!
Those poor boys. I know, the whole this is just heart-wrenching and to think that you got so much out of my vid. I'm honoured by your kind review. Thank you so much!

So true. So very, very true. I'm so glad that someone FINALLY gets the true meaning of this vid. Your insight is humbling. Really.

OOOOOOH!!! So very, very tempting! We could be heroes! (if just for one day) But d'ya think it's just possible that we might offend the organisers of other vidding communities?
And yet the idea appeals to me so very much!
*grits teeth against temptation*

Very funny - spit-takes all round! And yet, I've read this sort of thing by people who are, for some unknown reason, paid to do it and do it seriously - and wouldn't see the humour in this!!!!
How scary is that? ;)

LOL!! Oh come on, you know you want to! That would be awesome! In fact, I volunteer all of my vids for you to poke fun at and be very snarky about. It would be fun. It would be kinda like the time a friend of mine did a Mystery Science Theater 3000 take on this (admitedly bad) fic I wrote back when I used to be really active in Highlander fandom. She was worried that I'd be offended when she asked me if she could do it, but it was hilarious.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen any of your vids before. Where do you have them stashed? :)
From:
Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation
You can find them there. They're all Stargate Atlantis, except for one Pirates of the Caribbean vid that I made last year.

I especially like Vertigo, with it's artfully retelling of how the Earther's managed to peacefully and happily integrate with their Pegasus Galaxy neighbours. Such a sweet and fluffy vid.

Yeah, that's the real danger, isn't it? I suppose we're not so much sending up the vids (however bad they might be), on another level we're actually sending up reviewers and the reviewing process.
Kinda scary ;-)

We're still making sure the people over at the_reel aren't offended by our sillyness, but otherwise I was going to post it as the next review at
