Just ignore us... we're being silly!

[livejournal.com profile] yokiem and I were being silly and came up with a new summary for my latest vid gethsemane... [Should be read in a pompous voice, a sour expression, much eyebrow action and head wobbling. Or read it as a gospel preacher...that cracks me up too.]

An intensely beautiful character study in which one man, Sam Winchester, struggles with his inner demons, his tragic past and future fate. Should he look to god for redemption or is he already in the sway of the darker forces? Why should he die? Must he end his life in order to save his brother, Dean? For surely if he doesn't, his brother may have to kill him and this would surely destroy his own soul in the process. Never has there been a vid with more angst, painful expression and the odd bit of wicked beat use. Don't miss this masterpiece!

*giggles and runs away*

Now with two new piss-take reviews:
Boys will be boys - vid by [livejournal.com profile] starrylizard, reviewed by [livejournal.com profile] derry667
Starrylizard is a virtuoso of vidding who seems to particularly excel in creating gut-wrenching, soul-aching masterpiece angst vids. "Boys Will Be Boys" is probably her crowning achivement in this field...

John Sheppard: Intergalactic man of mystery - vid by [livejournal.com profile] derry667, reviewed by [livejournal.com profile] starrylizard
Derry667 has a nack of pulling at my heartstrings and she's done it again with this masterful character study of Lt Col. John Sheppard...

Yeah, that really sums up your fantastic vid ;)

Hee! *clings to the word fantastic and ignores any sarcastic overtones* :P

I wonder if I shock this. People may not watch it! :P

Okay, let's see if we can't go one better...

Because I'm an incorrigble pisstake, here's a review of your "Boys Will Be Boys" vid - a masterpiece of angst!

Starrylizard is a virtuoso of vidding who seems to particularly excel in creating gut-wrenching, soul-aching masterpiece angst vids. "Boys Will Be Boys" is probably her crowning achivement in this field. It clearly and evocatively illustrates the tragedy of two young men who were forced to grow up too fast by a tyrannical and abusive patriach, leaving their innocence behind for a life of endless pain and fear. Trying to escape their terrible destiny, they embark on a series of childish pranks against each other in an attempt to reclaim their lost boyhood. Tragically, the abusiveness of their "prank war" escalates, destroying their brotherhood and sending both into a downward spiral of mutual loathing and despair. Starrylizard weaves this epic tale of abuse and betrayal to a harsh, overtly masculine musical piece which is precisely the kind of music sadly lacking in the soundtrack of the source material. Because ultimately boys will be boys, but these two boys are far too broken to cope with their lives and hence darkness is their only destiny.

Whatcha reckon? ;-P

Maybe you could start a whole new meme with this? You could call it the "pisstake review meme"?

I reckon I can go one better...

A review of "John Sheppard: Intergalactic Man of Mystery" - a video by [livejournal.com profile] derry667

Derry667 has a nack of pulling at my heartstrings and she's done it again with this masterful character study of Lt Col. John Sheppard. Following his heartbreaking failure at marriage, John Sheppard resolves to hide his true self and instead seeks only to satisfy his carnal urge for sex and he's not above using violence or his friends to get it.

While on the surface, he presents a suave confident persona that allows him to gain access to many women, it is obvious that none of them truly satisfy him.

The painful way he disregards his few friends, even as they strive to gain favour with him is deeply saddening, and we are forced to watch as he drags his friends into his own world of sexual perversity and violence.

In the background, there is always the one person who truly understands him. Elizabeth Weir, with her gentle refusals, is completely out of his league. She understands his games and will therefore never allow him to gain a sexual advantage, thus keeping him at a distance out of love.

The voice-overs present in the musical material provide a running dialogue that is hard hitting and serves to hammer home the main themes of lost love, despair and the unending search for happiness in all the wrong places.

Ultimately, John Sheppard s a broken human being, securely hiding his true feelings behind a mask of one-liners and sexual advances, and we are left wondering if he will ever be able to break free and truly love again.

Ha! Yes, it could be a meme, but fandom would probably end up making it into something mean. I'd love to start a journal on this. People could nominate their vids to have the piss taken out of them. We could call it not_the_reel! :P

Fave bit: "tyrannical and abusive patriach"
I love the word tyrannical!

Those poor boys. I know, the whole this is just heart-wrenching and to think that you got so much out of my vid. I'm honoured by your kind review. Thank you so much!

Re: You realise this is vid war now...

ROTFL! Dude, your review is MADE OF AWESOME!

Fave bit?

The voice-overs present in the musical material provide a running dialogue that is hard hitting and serves to hammer home the main themes of lost love, despair and the unending search for happiness in all the wrong places.

So true. So very, very true. I'm so glad that someone FINALLY gets the true meaning of this vid. Your insight is humbling. Really.

I'd love to start a journal on this. People could nominate their vids to have the piss taken out of them. We could call it not_the_reel! :P

OOOOOOH!!! So very, very tempting! We could be heroes! (if just for one day) But d'ya think it's just possible that we might offend the organisers of other vidding communities?

And yet the idea appeals to me so very much!

*grits teeth against temptation*

Re: You realise this is vid war now...

Frankly, I think it would end up like MST3000 if you did it right: The vids can be good or bad, serious or humourous in their own right, but the commentary/review takes its own separate tone, and usually the films end up even more beloved (or at least seen and appreciated to some extent!).

I say, if you think you're up for starting/running a comm like that, you should!

Re: You realise this is vid war now...

Hehehe! Where the heck did you come from? Just kidding! *waves happily* You really shouldn't tempt us! :P

Snert!

Very funny - spit-takes all round! And yet, I've read this sort of thing by people who are, for some unknown reason, paid to do it and do it seriously - and wouldn't see the humour in this!!!!

How scary is that? ;)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

I guess it wouldn't be a piss-take if others didn't do it seriously...though it is entirely scary! Glad to have made you snert. :D

From: [identity profile] les342.livejournal.com

Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

OOOOOOH!!! So very, very tempting! We could be heroes! (if just for one day)

LOL!! Oh come on, you know you want to! That would be awesome! In fact, I volunteer all of my vids for you to poke fun at and be very snarky about. It would be fun. It would be kinda like the time a friend of mine did a Mystery Science Theater 3000 take on this (admitedly bad) fic I wrote back when I used to be really active in Highlander fandom. She was worried that I'd be offended when she asked me if she could do it, but it was hilarious.

Aww, man! I need one of those icons that says "come to the darkside...we have cookies!" :P

I'm not sure if I've ever seen any of your vids before. Where do you have them stashed? :)

You can find them there. They're all Stargate Atlantis, except for one Pirates of the Caribbean vid that I made last year.

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

Awesome, I actually have Sedated and Vertigo already on my favourite vids list, but I hadn't connected them to your LJ username. :)

I especially like Vertigo, with it's artfully retelling of how the Earther's managed to peacefully and happily integrate with their Pegasus Galaxy neighbours. Such a sweet and fluffy vid.

Re: You realise this is vid war now...

The Lizard's right. You *REALLY* shouldn't tempt us! We could *TOTALLY* go Darkside on this. I'm talking *APOCALYPTICALLY* evil here.

Get thee behind us with your vile temptation!

From: [identity profile] derry667.livejournal.com

And yet, I've read this sort of thing by people who are, for some unknown reason, paid to do it and do it seriously - and wouldn't see the humour in this!!!!

Yeah, that's the real danger, isn't it? I suppose we're not so much sending up the vids (however bad they might be), on another level we're actually sending up reviewers and the reviewing process.

Kinda scary ;-)

From: [identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

I don't suppose you have a streaming version of "Sedated?"
We're still making sure the people over at the_reel aren't offended by our sillyness, but otherwise I was going to post it as the next review at [livejournal.com profile] not_the_reel. *grins* We have no will power.

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

You can get it without downloading it at the same website. Instead of clicking on the green arrow to download, just click on the link that's next to it. I think that will work, unless I'm completely confused about what you mean. Then just let me know and I'll shut up and go away. LOL

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

Hmm, that link tells me I have a session error and to log in again. I'm sure I managed to get into it last time though. *scratches head*

Maybe if you have a post in your LJ, I could use that link and then people could leave you lovely feedback? :D

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

Sounds good to me. This should be fun. LOL I'm at work at the moment, but I'll put the link up later tonight from home.

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

I'm such a pain. Hee! Thanks! :)
Oh and weirdly the link works here at work. Must be my home firewall chucking a wobbly again.

From: [identity profile] les342.livejournal.com

Re: Personally, I think you should give in to temptation

I made a post in my LJ that you can link to. Also, I noticed that you have a place at the comm where you can nominate vids, so I filled out that too, so you have the link to the vid and the feeback post.
