SGA Ficrec: To Serve a Queen by Tielan

Here's one written back in '05, but I've been fishing through ficrecs and only just discovered it and I found it very good. I-read-all-17-parts-in-one-night-good!

To Serve a Queen by tielan (R, Dex/Weir, het)

This is a really interesting AU/crossover world with Atlantis character's existing in the world set up in the books "The realm of the Blood" by Anne Bishop. I haven't actually read the books, but I enjoyed the fic. Dex/Weir is the main pairing, with others revealed along the way.

Dex is a warlord prince who has been trapped in slavery for severn years, when Queen Elizabeth Weir buys his freedom. (And man did I just make that sound tacky! O_O) Anyway, the characterization is really good, with all the characters slotting nicely into their new roles in this female-run society. There's court intrigue, spells, witches and warlords and jewels, and yeah... hey I liked it anyway. It's a little slow in parts, but overall a good read. :D

I've read the first book in the Black Jewels trilogy and I wasn't overly impressed (some of the characters are Suerific), but I really liked this fic. I may have to go and read it again now. :P

Hee, the rec I found said much the same thing. They said they tried to read the books once and couldn't, but they really liked the fic. Interesting! :)

Thanks for this! I just read the fic and left a comment off your comment ;) Nice to find a different approach to the SGA universe, and it reminded me of those old fantasy novels I used to read!
