Okay, so I'm slow to write this and everyone's probably read other con reports by now, but here's my ramble on the FSF convention (28 Oct 2006, Sydney). *takes a breath*
Nothing here is word-for-word, just how I remember it, so please don't quote me or anything. :P
The guests were Rachel Lutrell, Tony Amendola and David Nykl.
First up were the photos.
yokiem and I had photos taken with Rachel and David. Rachel was lovely and put up with 5 of us all cramming into one photo (and
derry667's spider puppet and K9 stuffed toy :P) with aplomb. She's so pretty and petite in person.
David was very charming and happily said something like "Here's two more gorgeous girls come to pose with me." and asked us who our favourite character was. I tell you "Zelenka" is the new "cheese" for photo-taking purposes. Try it.
On stage David was so relaxed and joking about the whole time. He really was just delightful! Also if you thought he was gorgeous as Zelenka, in person he is just ten times more gorgeous. His whole posture is different somehow, his eyes are beautiful and his hair is not quite that scruffy. Oh and he's delightfully hairy!
Some questions and stuff I remember in no particular order:
Q: If Zelenka got to have his own feature episode, what did he think it would be like?
At first David just laughed and said "well Zelenka would be lying on a beach in the Bahamas..." to much laughter.
Then he said that "seriously, it would probably go like this..." At this point his voice changed into Czech accent mode and his posture changed and it was Zelenka minus glasses. *Squee* "Zelenka comes out of his lab and looks around, but there is no one there." David looked around the room all frightened and says "Hello? Hello, anyone there? ...and that would be it, he'd just wander around Atlantis looking for the others."
Q: What sort of practical jokes get played on set?
David said there were too many to pick one and then sort of snapped his fingers and told us he had one. Apparently there was a shoot where Beckett and Sheppard were running up a hill in multiple takes. Each time they went back down the hill to start the shoot again, Joe slipped a big rock into Paul's medical bag thing and Paul wondered why it was getting so heavy. David said that by take 18 or so, and these apparently weren't small rocks, Paul was beat and Joe was making fun of him for being a wimp.
Poor Paul. :P
Not really a spoiler, but there are definitely more scenes with Zelenka (with Rodney) in both season 3 and 4. Apparently he's had more scenes this year than previously. :) He kept commenting on the fact that he's the one that says "the Wraith are coming" all the time. He obviously finds it very funny.
Oh
derry667 asked a question and he remembered who she was. So cool! He apparently has a great memory for maps and faces and stuff. He studied maps of Sydney and Australia before coming and he knew where he was. He told the FSF guy driving him that he'd missed the turn and he was right!!
There was a question about jobs he'd worked other than acting and he's been a mechanic (though he was only allowed to change the oil!) and a waiter.
Anyway, I'll add more if I remember anything, but basically David won my little heart. I love Zelenka, but David is really wonderful in person and his eyes are beautiful. :)
Tony was next up to the stage. He is just such a thespian. By that I mean, you can tell he does a lot of theatre. He's just got such a lovely commanding presence about him and a delightful sense of humour. He was really very charming.
One poor girl accidentally asked a question and said StarTrek instead of Stargate and the whole audience went "Ooooh." He pretended to walk out calling for the event runner, because he doesn't work on that show, then he came back all smiley and said there's just one thing I always say to Trekkies. Then he proceeded to sing 'You 'aint Nothin' but a Hound Dog' changing the lyrics around.
You aint nothin' but a trekkie jiving all the time... You aint ever heard of Stargate then you aint no friend of mine.
He could sing and had a nice voice and it was just so unexpected, the whole audience was whistling and cheering. Then he answered the girls question after making her say it again a couple of times emphasising the right show. Poor thing was so embarrassed.
He also talked a bit about other movies and TV he has been in, including The Mask of Zorro and it's sequel (in which he played his own brother, but in his own words, it was work so he wasn't going to complain.)
Tony had lots of anecdotes and happily praised the SG1 cast. He had a lot of Praise for Chris Judge and said they were checking each other out for acting skills on that first day they were to work together and he thought they both felt at ease. Oh and he joked about how he was playing a 120 yr old Jaffa and he expected lots of make up, but the lady looked at him and said "yeah, you'll do without make up" and he was kind f offended by that for a minute.
He commented on how they are ending SG1 just after getting a whole new cast and how weird that was. He just shrugged as if to say he just didn't understand how they worked these things out. Oh adn he roped people in saying he'd give us a spoiler, the he said "well there's this really intense scene in the final episode of the season when they..." and then his mouth was moving but no sound came out. It was silly, but funny!
Last up was Rachel and she is a real delight. She's so small and petite and really quite different from how she comes across on screen. She's also very serious and thoughtful and polite. She really thought about all the questions before answering.
In response to a question, she told us about Jason and how he's sort of like a large Saint Bernard puppy who doesn't know his strength. Apparently he regularly tackles her, especially when she comes out of her trailer, and then he'll throw her over his shoulder or pick her up and run around with her. Rachel was kind of rolling her eyes a bit and said that she's fight back, but she's so much smaller that she's be forced to play dirty and probably hurt him and she didn't want to do that, but it all gets a bit much at times.
She said all the guys tease her. Poking her, picking her up and making fun of her. Apparently this one time, they were all teasing her because the scene had Teyla leading them in a dangerous situation. She had her gun and such and they kept saying stuff like "shouldn't the big strong guys take the lead. Why are we following a girl?" and she snapped at them and Jason was all apologetic like a hurt puppy. Then she apologised to Joe later and he didn't remember what she was talking about. :P
Apparently she gets up at 4am to do a workout before work! 0_o Oh and the sticks were a challenge, but she just practiced like mad, because she wanted it to be believable. She said Joe doesn't practice enough, so she has to be careful in stick scenes with him and he's hit her a few times.
Oh and apparently since Jason started on Atlantis, Joe has turned into "Frat Boy." They play around al the time and act, well, like boys!
She said David Hewlett was a really nice guy that just puts everyone at ease and is good at diffusing tense situations and making people laugh instead. :)
So that was about it, there was just one bit at the end where David and Tony crashed Rachel's bit and they all joked around and answered more questions.
At this point, someone asked Rachel who she would pick as a love interest for Teyla if she had a choice form the current guys. Poor Rachel was all flustered, because she obviously didn't want to answer that one and she was kind of stalling. David went all puppy dog cute and sort of nudged her with his head, like pick me! and it was really cute. I think he was trying to give her an out, but she didn't take it, just sort of said she couldn't choose.
Anyway, there was such a good dynamic with them all together, with David and Tony joking around and Rachel stuck in the middle giving them patient looks at times (like she gives Rodney and John in sga... same expression). My memory fails me at present over what they were asked at this point, but it was just generally very playful.
So yeah,
yokiem and I didn't get autographs, so that was it for us. We waited about for
derry667 and
mcalex22 to get their autographs (and some great photos too), because we all car-pooled. Then we went back to Derry's for Thai and more sga talk. Left a slashy message in Derry's LJ and confused people (she doesn't ship :P) and yeah, what a nice day!!!
Check out
mcalex22's pics of the con over here and my pics are here.

Heh...poor Rachel. I had a friend in high school (a rugby player) who used to do that - pick me up in the middle of the hallway and throw me over his shoulder. Sigh. Definitely big puppydogs.
