I've taken recently to wandering about MySpace, stumbling from profile to profile, in search of music. And there's some awesome stuff out there, all unsigned and looking for people to hear their music. And a number of these groups have demo albums and songs available for free download, so that you can try out their music. NICE! :)

So, I thought I'd spread the word on a few of these finds.

1. GREEN GO
First up a Canadian group called Green Go - An Indie group, with great boppy sounds, who recently had a track featured on Chuck.

They are offering up a bunch of cute remixes for free, just click the link off the MySpace page and hit download.

I've actually gone and ordered their CD, Borders, from Amazon.ca and I'm hoping it will one day arrive. 3 months for delivery, come on! *frowny*

2. J MINUS and TRADING VOICES
These groups are more like entities with various vocalists. They were started by a guy called Dylan Fant. Basically in his own words: I built J minus to be not just a band, but a musical entity with numerous vocalists and personalities...kind of like the Wu Tang Clan of rock... He calls Trading Voices the female version of J Minus. To add more confusion there is a JMINUS MOON and JMINUS SUN. Confused? I was, but the music is really very good.

For FREE tracks head to both JMinus and Trading Voices and find the little widget which offers free downloads. It should be on the left hand side of the page. It asks you to sign up to the mailing list in return for the link, but it's very easy to unsign form it later if you really don't want email from them.

I'm definitely considering buying some of their stuff too. The Trading Places CD is available on iTunes, so way easier to get a hold of. :D

3. ELETRIKA
These guys are a heavy metal group out of Brazil. I'll preface this one by saying, I know almost nothing about metal and don't normally listen to it, so it may or may not be good; I know nothing. However I don't mind it as far the style of music goes. They have combined some fairly different styles of music into their metal. In their own words The Brazilian rhythms and the Portuguese language added to the songs make its style unique, giving birth to a new kind of Metal.

Anyway, they have a FREE album available for easy download on their MySpace Page, so if you think it may be your thing, wander over and have a listen.

4. Triple J (An Australian nationwide radio station) recently ran Unearthed High. This is a competition open to any groups whose members are in high school (yr 7-12) and the entries have really been stellar this year. Some of them blow your socks off, especially when you consider the age of the entrants.

And the beat part is you can download all the competition entries or stream them if you prefer. Hopefully they're available outside Australia. I've only managed to nab a small portion of the songs, but I am so enjoying my free listening. These teens are definitely the stars of tomorrow. :)

The winner of the competition was a group consisting of four sisters: Stonefield (previously known as Iotah). They won with the song Foreign Lover and it's fabulous! \o/ Let me know if it is not possible to download outside Oz and I'll pop that one up for you all.

And that's all she wrote.
If people are interested in future updates on music I find, just lemme know. I feel like I've found some absolute gems lately and free stuff is always worth a listen. What are you gonna lose?
