I've been using AVG for years now and its probably one of the best. Its regularly updated and runs pretty well and I haven't ever had issues with it and viruses since I got it. I used to use Norton before that, but it was terrible :3 Essentially, just as long as you don't click on dodgy looking links or go to questionable sites, its likely that you'll be perfectly fine. Using Mozilla/firefox helps too and keeping that regularly updated is probably sufficient. I think it also has an email program (?) but I haven't tried that one.
