My intention was to show how they both look after each other, but in the end I think it didn't really hang together like I wanted. I think despite how much Sam seems to need Dean and Dean believes he's there to look after Sam, its much more tit for tat than they think. They both need each other. :)
Also, I like writing Sam as the hero! He should get to be the hero more often on the show for sure. :)
