Hail all knowing flist!

Is there a way to put a sticky post at the top of a community?

I know I've seen it done before, but I'm not sure if it's only with certain themes or if it was due to special css. Anyone know?

I'm using flexible squares.

Here via friendsfriends. The sticky post is usually done just by dating the entry to some time in the future (say, year 2020), so that it always pops up on top as the most recent entry. I'm sure you could code something too, but future-dating seems easiest.

Hmm, I don't think you can do that in a community. I've tried several times.

Thanks for replying though. :)

Huh! I'm sorry, for some reason I was sure that would work. You're right, you can future-date the entries but you can't make them stick. This (http://community.livejournal.com/s2howto/13719.html) FAQ post lists the S2 styles that offer a sticky post function: Minimalism, Smooth Sailing and the Expressive/Mixit family.

Ah, so that must be it. Only certain styles offer it. Thanks for the info. :)

I think - though I'm not entirely sure - that you can only do that with a paid account? I remember having the same problem when I set up spn_sceneit.

Try looking through here too:

Ah, maybe that's it. I have certainly seen it done before and it seemed simple at the time. :P

I'll just put some links in and stop fussing. :)

You can't do sticky posts in communities, even if they are Paid accounts--I would probably just pop links to important posts in your Sidebar ;)

Yup, that's the current plan. :)

There's certain journal styles that allow you to put info at the top of the journal as a 'post', but only certain styles.

And yeah, future dating doesn't work for comms.

Yep, it appears my chosen style doesn't let you. Oh well.
You online? Huh? *pokes*

Nope, just about to disappear. Was just on briefly while mum was doing the dryer...about to watch an episode of Merlin with the fam.

*hugs you hard*

Uni work to do tomorrow. *sighs*

It shouldn't matter which style you have. You should be able to code the sticky post into any style. I'm pretty sure.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-18 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
with css you mean?
I think I've got it worked out with the links list now, so it should be fine. No dramas. Thanks! :)

It's got nothing to do with CSS! You just need to manually change the date to something in the future. Also, for that one post, you'll want to CHECK the button that says "Date out of order" (find it by clicking on "edit" next to "date.") But then you need to make sure that every other post you make thereafter has the "Date out of order" button UNCHECKED or else the entry will not appear on your friends' flists. Trust me, I learned about it the hard way. :)

Hope that's helpful. ♥

Yeah, I know how to do that for a personal journal, unfortunately it doesn't work in communities. Thank you for trying to help though. *hugs*

Aw, crap! I'm sorry. That's pretty silly of LJ though. Consistency, people!
