These news articles make me nervous...

1) US studios avoided Telstra battle and went after iiNet instead in copyright case

2) The death of anonymity online has users fuming

3) Cybercrime bill on fast-track

I just hate that we seem to be moving more and more towards no privacy or anonymity on the internet and I do not want some person checking up on everything I download or do and reporting on it. It gives me the willies. I'm sure anyone who needs this information can and will be able to access it, as they do now, with appropriate reasons (e.g. the police).

Has anyone been following all these developments? Are similar things occurring around the world or is Australia trying to lead the way again?

I was annoyed to have to link my YouTube account to a Google Mail address, but simply fuming when the other day at log in they wanted MY MOBILE PHONE NUMBER!!

Not being anonymous on the net might not matter to some, but it does to me and the day I can't play either here on my journal, in fandom at large or on YouTube etc unless I surrender my real name, address, phone number and probably social security number and my DNA sample is the day I pull the plug on this machine for good and quite honestly the way Google and Facebook have been behaving? It won't be long.

Yeah, the connecting my youtube to google email was so automatic too... they seemed to already know my email address. O_o
I couldn't skip past the phone number thing either, so I eventually gave them one out of frustration. I notice you can skip past it now at least... I think you can anyway.

Grrrr, in general.

The cyber crimes bill is the thing that disturbs me most. That they will be collecting personal emails and be able to access them. How can we possibly feel secure online now.

iiNet will fight to the death and I think they will win.

Yeah, that one scares the pants off me, not only because it's scary, but because the first I heard of it was last week. Why do these cyber bills just slide under the radar?

They were talking about it last year. Another one of Conway's pet projects.

Oh, I thought all of his pet projects already went through with all that firewall crap. :(
