SPN 5x19

So what did people think? I have to say I was rather relieved about something...

So a while ago I was having a nice lunch with [profile] charis_kalos and I was lamenting the fact that SPN had now gone all out Christian. Where their bad guys had previously hailed from many religions, suddenly they were talking Heaven and Hell, angels and demons, GOD and LUCIFER. But where were the many non-Christian Gods? They sort of had Loki (demi-God), so...

But suddenly they seemed to have restricted themselves. As someone who has decided religion isn't for me, but who is fascinated by them nonetheless, this was a big step backwards for the show in my eyes... and then they had episode 5x19! *flail*

I wonder that they appeared to make Lucifer stronger than all the other Gods.... hmmm. Killing them? Not sure about that. But that the writers had thought about it and rectified the situation made me very happy.

Also, finally the way in which the rings are important and how the guys will put Lucifer back in his box. Yay! Plot development finally. The last three episodes hail the end of the annoying filler eps for the season I hope.

Yet another minor character killed off. Definitely a trend there. I can't quite figure out why they never get around to killing Bobby. He certainly is bucking that particular trend... But anyway.

FINALLY!

Lizzie out!

They probably value their lives too highly:P

Yes, I agree. I do like how they managed to touch base with their pagan-gods roots of the show in this episode.

As for killing Bobby ... honestly, I feel that's it's very likely that he will get killed off, but it might happen closer to the season/series finale because he's practically more than a minor character and I'm sure they would want to make it more dramatic than Gabriel's death, for instance.

Although, *sniff* poor Gabriel! I always liked the guy - and losing him now when he was just a fun source to play with since S2 is tragic!

I think the whole point of putting Bobby in the wheelchair is so they wouldn't have to kill him - as they systematically whittle down all of the boys' allies until there's just the two of them left to fight Lucifer.

I wasn't sure about them killing off all the none Judeo-Christian gods either, but like you I thought it was good that they had at least been considered.

As for Gabriel... Well God brought Cas back to life so who knows what the future holds?

Heh, back when Show was going to end with season five, I was pretty convinced that they were going to kill off Sam and Dean in a blaze of glory, and that Bobby was going to be the last one standing, the only one left who would know the whole truth. Then Chuck kinda took on that possible role (the chronicler) and now we're getting a sixth season... so now imagine Bobby dying to play the usual "student grows out of needing teacher" trope, leaving his house and all the books in it to Sam and Dean, and next season the two of them have a home base from which they launch their adventures. Ta daa!

You know, as long as they don't kill off Castiel I'm game. Sorry Bobby, but the mentor role gets axed sooner or later, and we've loved you well and always will.

I refuse to believe that Gabriel is dead. Or at least, he's only mostly dead, not all dead. He might be resurrected by an-occasionally-interventionist God like Castiel was, or he might be raised by blood magic, since he's still bound to Kali by blood. But he's not gone forever - because I like him!

I loved seeing the pantheon, but hated that Lucifer could kill them. He's only a fallen archangel, not a god himself. It could be one of those Pratchett Small Gods/Gaiman American Gods things where the strength of a god is based on the number of their worshippers, and lots of people do seem to believe in 'Lucifer as the Devil' (even though it's crappy Christian theology). But him killing Odin and Ganesh and almost killing Kali - very Western Imperialism.

I used to be the number one "if you touch Bobby I will GUT YOU" person but now...meh.

They may not have killed him, but they've definitely diluted the character.

"I find it interesting that earlier he was about as close to a father figure as the guys had. Now I feel we're constantly told he's a father figure and even Bobby is telling the guys he's like a father to them and because of that he no longer appeals to me in that role any more."

Pretty much this.

All my fangirl love now lies with the Impala. *builds a protective shield around it*
