You're looking for the system properties, I'd think. With XP, you go to Start - (right-click) My Computer - properties and that will give you a page with your operating system and service pack, etc.
Now, if you have Vista or Windows 7, I'm afraid I don't know how they call that info up but hopefully a quick Google search will tell you. Then just cap that sucker and hopefully you can get this all straightened out ASAP!
