Out of interest, what are people's views on an individual having a separate personal community for their fic, vids and art?

I ask as someone who makes a lot of terribly rambly posts about all sorts of inconsequential nonsense, and I was therefore wondering whether people would like to be able to just get the stuff they're interested in without wading trough all the other stuff.

A while back, I did set aside a community name for myself, but then I was undecided about whether it was a good idea.

Thoughts? I know there's quite the split down my flist of people doing separate communities vs their own single LJ. As I say, just curious. :)

In other news, I have one more fic paragraph. Word count 300-ish. Hey, it's something. :)

I don't mind everything being on the one LJ. But then, I have a fairly small and select flist. But I tend to skim posts quickly and pause to engage when I'm interested and when I have time. (Often I am interested, and would love to comment, but something truly evil like the need to write a sermon calls me instead.)

Heee! Yeah, me too. Plus my interests are so eclectic, I often am not aware I'm interested until I read something random in an unexpected place. :)

I like to keep everything in one place, personally. My only unlocked posts are fic, vids, etc, so if someone is only interested in those things I just don't friend them back. If any of my mutual-friends aren't interested in those things, it's easy enough for them to just scroll past. I don't think there's a single person on my f-list who is interested in everything I talk about anyway, heh.

And it gets a bit complicated friending-wise, IMO, when people have more than one LJ. I prefer to only friend someone once, but that might just be me being weird. ;)

Nope, that's some of the main reasons I scrapped the idea of my own comm, but I was just interested in what other people think.

Thanks! :)

I've been debating doing the same thing. I'd still post the everything in my main journal, just have a comm to post links to, so people could friend that and not have to put up with my random blithering spamming their f-list.

It's a 'maybe eventually' thing though.

Word count 300-ish. Hey, it's something.

Yay! I've managed to realize just how in over my head I am, but I did make a major structural change that could be considered progress.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-25 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that would be me too! I do like having everything i my LJ, so I guess I'd just post links back for fic and post all my icons/vids in both places. I just don't know whether anyone would join. lol

I've been thinking about this as well, but as I rarely post anything other than vids and maybe a vid ramble I haven't thought it necessary.

I think the split can be handy for people who post a lot of maybe RL or non fannish stuff or say A LOT of icons, arts, fics etc. I've friended some individuals comms lately because I really only want to read their fics and not read their thoughts on the current economic climate etc. Though if I developed a "relationship" with that person I would friend both. :)

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-25 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, good points. I guess that's really my problem. I post fannish stuff inbetween all the other crap I post normally. So, whether people want to sift through all of that...?

Sometimes I don't fiend other people for their fic etc. too because I don't then want them to be able to read all my frinds-locked posts. Whereas if they have a community, that's not an issue.

Hmm, all good food for thought. :)

Well, I've made one for my art, as you know, because I hadn't done much art by that stage and I liked the idea of it being all in one place.

For fics and that, I have too much back catalogue to easily go through and transfer everything. *shrugs* I generally don't see it as much of an issue if the author/vidder/whatever in question have a good tags/masterlist/something to make it easy for me to find things on their LJ.

I keep on thinking about making a community for my photos...particularly if I do start taking more.

[identity profile] starrylizard.livejournal.com 2009-07-25 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I was thinking I'd just link to my LJ for previous fic and vids, but I could repost icons. It'd just be a place to have updates, so that people could join that rather than following me, per se. :P

I'm sure I'm overestimating people's want to view my fannish stuff, but *shrugs* :)

*shrugs* It's really hard to know with these things. You make such pretty art.

*grins* Flattery will buy you anything! *smishes*

I post everything in one journal. All fandom fics, vids, icons are made public while my personal posts are private. That way, people don't have to feel obliged to friend me.

But I have thought about a journal JUST for fandom things so it's really up to you. :)

Yep! I'm just toying with the idea. :)
Thanks!
