There's another "hug-ficlet" I wrote today. Very high schmoop content. You have been warned. It was posted here as comment fic, or read below the cut.
First Steps (Supernatural, Complete Schmoop, Wee!cesters, John, G, Gen)
They were in LA; a dingy motel room on the outskirts of the city, with stale-smelling bedding and a window that looked out to a concrete parking lot.
John was trying to concentrate on his journal, his body settled on a lumpy single bed while he scribbled down everything the local faith-healer had explained to him about death omens and reapers.
Then Sammy's head appeared above the other bed, grinning a sloppy smile at his newly accomplished feat and laughing as chubby hands clutched the sheets and kept him from falling back down on his diapered butt.
"Hey, Sammy, what cha doing?"
Sam laughed, bouncing slightly at his father's interest. John carefully set his journal aside, stood and walked around the bed so he could see his youngest.
"Hey, you're standing buddy. Think you could walk some?" Standing back a few paces, so there was a little open space between Sam and himself, John opened his arms wide. "Come on Sammy, come to daddy."
With a delighted shriek, Sam placed a wobbly foot forward, then the other, still clutching tightly to the bed sheets for balance, then paused as he realised he'd have to let go.
"Come on, come to daddy." John waggled his hands again, as he felt rather than heard Dean abandon his toy car and move to stand behind him.
"Come on Sammy, you can do it," Dean added, leaning over John's shoulder and waving his prized toy car. "You want the toy car?"
Sam laughed again, shrill delight, before taking a step and then another, leaving his support behind. On the third step he wobbled mightily and would have fallen, but John leaned forward another inch and scooped his son up in his arms.
“You did it, buddy!”
Sam shrilled happily as he found himself hoisted into the air and hugged tightly in strong, sure arms. “That’s my boy.”
