Question for the Americans out there

So, over here we have organisations, like Greenpeace (Greenies), who are all about protecting the animals and old growth forest etc. and they go out and protest and run little boats in the way of whaling ships and tie themselves to trees that are about to be logged etc.

What would be the equivalent group in America? Anyone?

We have a few, actually.

We have a Greenpeace, too. And the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Um, who else...PETA is an animal-rights organization, very, um, strong-minded. I think they're against the keeping of animals as pets. Not sure what it stands for, something Equal Treatment of Animals I think...

I think that's the big ones...

I don't think the EPA counts. At this point, they're more of a rubber stamp for the Bush administration's polluting cronies. :-(

I'll go with Greenpeace, or greenie. Not mentioning names really, just checking for a story. Thanks Doc! :)

Greenpeace is in the states as well. You also have the Sierra Club, which is a pretty legit group. On the animal side you have PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), they are a bit more . . . militant. And then there's the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and the Humane Association. Those last two aren't really in the same league as greenpeace.

The EPA is an administrative agency, and not really a good one at that. It's kinda the opposite of Greenpeace.

Going with Greenpeace! Thanks Annie! :)

PETA

PETA, which the others mentioned stands for "People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals", which I'm all for but they can go a little overboard with it. For instance, PETA wanted my alumni university to change it's mascot, The University Of South Carolina Gamecocks. Apparently having a man dressed up in a chicken suit dancing around at a sporting event is offensive to.... chickens.
