A teeny Teyla and Rodney friendship moment. :)
When I went away for Christmas, I asked for McKay/Weir or McKay/Teyla prompts, because I felt like trying to write it. Someone said I should write what happened during the tea ceremony in Tau of Rodney, and while this isn't that scene, it is a Teyla/Rodney moment in Teyla's rooms and has references to that episode.
Title: Athosian greetings
Author:
starrylizard
Rating: Gen, kiddie safe, friendship
characters: Rodney and Teyla
Spoilers: small references to Tau of Rodney
Rodney stood for a moment in thought and then made a decision, brushing his hand along the door panel. There was the sound of the distinctively polite Atlantian door chime, followed by Teyla’s gentle “Come in.”
The door swished open to reveal Teyla, sitting peacefully on the floor, legs crossed, a single candle lit before her. “Rodney? Are you alright?” Her brow creased slightly in concern as she rose swiftly.
He stepped inside, wringing his hands slightly in consternation. “I just. They will come back won’t they?”
”I too am concerned, Rodney, but if there is any way for them to make it back, Ronon and Colonel Sheppard will find it. They are very resourceful.”
Her voice was gentle, pitched low as if to a frightened child. As much as Rodney knew this treatment would bother him in anyone else, when it was Teyla, he could only find it soothing. He wanted to believe her.
He stared at his toes, nodding. “Yes, I know. Ronon evaded the wraith for seven years and Sheppard, well he’s tougher then almost anyone, practically Rambo when he wants to be and…” His voice trailed off as Teyla’s small hands came to rest on his shoulders, squeezing gently. He hadn’t even felt her approach.
When he looked up, it was into Teyla’s big brown eyes, still furrowed slightly in concern, and it took him a moment to realise what was happening. He tilted his head down and they touched foreheads lightly. Rodney thought about all that this gesture could imply. When he first met the Athosians, he had thought of it as a simple “hello,” but now he knew it could mean so much more. It could mean “I trust you,” “I love you,” “everything is well between us,” or “I understand” and right now Rodney thought it said all that and more. He sighed, feeling his shoulders losing a little of their tension.
When they lifted their heads, Rodney was looking directly into Teyla’s face once more and she smiled a little sadly. Her hands gently drifted from his shoulders, along his arms, until they held his hands between them.
“Come sit with me, Rodney.”
She led him to the mats on the floor and resumed her seated position, gesturing for Rodney to sit on the other side of the candle, facing her. Rodney did as she suggested, his knees cracking slightly as he tried to get comfortable.
“Clear blue skies?” he asked.
Teyla simply smiled again, that same happy-sad smile. “Whatever works for you, Rodney.”
“Clear blue skies, okay, thinking about clear blue skies. Stop talking now.” He took a deep breath and closed his eyes as Teyla openly grinned, squeezing his hand, before going back to her own meditation.
It wasn’t long, before Rodney listed slightly to the side so that he leaned against her bed and began to gently snore. Teyla cracked one eye open, an expression of fondness on her face and she whispered “clear blue skies.”

But that's what fanfic is for and this is lovely!

I'm so glad you liked this. *big grin* Thanks for the lovely comment.
Yeah, I find it odd that they never seem to explore any relationship with Teyla on the show except Ronon/Teyla and Sheppard/Teyla and even then it's fairly rare. It's a pity her character is so under-utilized really.

I love the comments about what the touching foreheads means.

They have a certain dynamic between them, which I do wish they would explore more on the show. I'd certainly like to try to write some more. :)
awww...
It was just so perfect.
That was spot-on Rodney. It made me smile. :)

(One day I might catch up on SGA S3 to see this episode.)
But I like this... how you show their characters, how they work together... everything is great!
And thanks

The Athosian head-touch scene was especially neat -- and she hasn't ever done it with him on the show, has she? At least not that we've seen.
Neat!

I'm glad you liked this. I haven't had time for long fic lately, so these small snippets are keeping me amused. :)
Thanks for commenting. :)
