Actually the episode had a lot of comments on how they couldn't afford everything on a tight budget and the plot was around a second hand jacket one of the kids was wearing. The moral of the episode seemed to be "be grateful for all you have because some people are struggling just to get food on the table". I rarely watched the show when it was on so maybe that wasn't mentioned too often. Dunno.
