I believe that the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is open in April and that is a definite must, particularly as a cultural experience. ;) Or the Mesquite Rodeo, which is also nearby and quite good.
Dallas also has the Sixth Floor Museum, which is all about the JFK assassination and is pretty interesting. If you don't want to pay/don't like museums, you might want to at least go by the assassination site. It's marked with an X on the road.
There's some good art museums in town, too.
If you want to go to a zoo, go to the Fort Worth zoo and not the Dallas Zoo.
